The Inn at Mystic

The staff were attentive and really helpful, and the location made it easy to get around. We could walk to some places; for Mystic Seaport Museum and Olde Mystic Village we drove, and parking was never a problem. The bed was very comfortable. Rooms could use some updating, though the fireplace was a nice touch, with a complimentary Duraflame log each night. It leaves a strong campfire smell, which didn’t bother me, but might be an issue if you’re sensitive to that. I hadn’t seen the “spa tub” in the photos before booking. It was large enough for six and had mirrors on three sides, so I decided against using it. Breakfast included eggs, sausages, hash browns, toast, yogurt, and other basics. Sunday brunch costs extra, though they give you a $5 coupon, and the prices didn’t look too bad. We skipped it that day. We didn’t try the kayaks or tennis courts. The good points outweighed my concerns, and the staff were great.

Rock 21 has a good brunch, and breakfast is complimentary every day except Sunday. My tub gave me some trouble, and the TV wasn’t intuitive, but I found workarounds without calling the lobby. Check-in and check-out were easy, and the staff were kind and personable. It was just right for a solo trip: close enough to walk to the action, with some quiet when I wanted it. I’ll be back.

The views from the mansion at the top are stunning, and there are benches around the property where you can sit and enjoy them. The Mystic Inn is a beautiful place in a great spot. It dates back to the 1960s and has a lot of history, so it feels like stepping back in time. Our room was clean, though it could use fresh paint and some updating. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We appreciated the continental breakfast every day, especially the great coffee, and had no trouble parking near our room. We’ll definitely return. Remember to mention AAA when you arrive, since they offer a discount.

The last part of our stay was frustrating. The maid service knocked twice to see if we’d left, more than 30 minutes before checkout. Our group knew the checkout time and was respecting it, so being hurried out that early made us feel rushed and spoiled the end of the visit.
