Motel 6-Napa, CA

The grounds were well kept, the pool looked nice, and parking was good and free. I also liked having Starbucks across the street, and the Squeeze Inn burger was yummy. Staff were a 5 out of 10 for me. I know Napa is costly, but this was still a little pricey for a Motel 6. I expect basic functionality, and some things didn't work for me. The sink was propped up so you could see the two by fours, the window coverings felt grimy, and the old telephone should go. The A/C was loud and made the room cold, and I didn't see anything saying climate control was handled by the office. The heater looked scary. I spent the second night in my sweatshirt. The first night was quiet, but the next one had someone upstairs stomping around from midnight to 3:30 a.m. They also don't take cash.

I stayed for a week while taking a class nearby. The flowers and pool area were well kept, the outside looked very good, and I always felt safe. Apart from one exception, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the cleaning crew left my room spotless every day. The furniture and room quality were about what you'd expect from a Motel 6. The main issue was the pot smell. The first night, my room smelled like someone was smoking in it, so I asked to move to the other building. During the week, I heard other guests complain about the smell too, so it seemed to be a continuing problem from my arrival through the day I left. It made me wonder if a staff member might be the source. There were bugs in the bathroom at night, though not roaches. The hot and cold controls on the sink faucet were switched, and there were no hooks for towels or anything else.

For the price, Motel 6 is a good deal in my opinion, and I enjoy staying there. The staff were super chill, parking was alright, and our room was a little nicer than I expected. It smelled strongly of smoke, but they swapped us to another room without a problem. The second room smelled a lot better and was otherwise the same.

The room was very clean and the towels were fresh, but this was still a very unpleasant stay. Bugs were crawling up the wall. Loggers Unlimited were pounding on the door of 120 beside our 119 at 5 a.m.; at 6, trucks started up right outside our window, including a very loud diesel. There were no amenities, and the shower and sink flow was so low they were almost impossible to use. There was nothing to hold on to in the shower either. We had to move from 109, and I can't understand why they put us in the middle of all that chaos. Our door keys needed replacing three times. They promised a discount for the move, but we never got it. The first day, the lady was terrific while we had to get keys twice, and the second day the lady who got them working was very nice. On the third night, the front desk lady was really snippy when we finally got keys that worked. It's hard to grade the whole situation, and please don't expect us to book again.
