TownePlace Suites Chicago Naperville

We ended up leaving for another hotel because we didn't want to risk another bad night's sleep. The fire alarm went off twice within a few hours of checking in. The desk said that wasn't very common, though the smoke detectors were a little sensitive. We later saw other reviews describing the same thing. The location is easy to reach from the highway, but it's not near many Naperville attractions. The hotel looks dated, though updates seem to be underway. Our room was spacious and looked clean, but the dish sponge was wet, unlike the new sealed ones we're used to at other TownePlace Suites. There was also a big spider hanging from the ceiling just outside our room.

At 3:15am the smoke alarms woke everyone up because people were smoking in their rooms, and we had to wait outside for the firefighters. The hallways and our room smelled like cigarettes. The room itself was filthy, including the bathroom. Staff weren't rude, but the customer service was minimal and they weren't helpful or welcoming. Easily the worst hotel I've stayed in. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone, 0/10.

Since covid, this hotel has gone downhill, and it's sad and frustrating to see. We used to give it five stars after coming for at least 7-10 nights every year for more than 15 years. The beds and linens were much more comfortable when we first started staying here. For a place described as recently renovated, the pool still doesn't work and there aren't outlets that's easy to reach by the beds. The towels and pillows are threadbare, and I'm pretty sure they're the same ones from 15 years ago.

When we came back three hours later, the room was still a mess. There were crumbs on the counter, the floor hadn't been vacuumed, the bedside tables were sticky and unwiped, the shower liner was moldy, and the sheets didn't look changed. At 3:20pm, Derek had told us the room was still being cleaned and asked us to wait 15 minutes. We waited in the lobby for an hour, then left. He said three housekeepers were working on it because the previous booking had left a big mess. Never again.
