Nevada City Inn

My family booked cottage #25 for a holiday visit to Nevada City because the location was convenient. The place was rundown and unsanitary: urine on the couch, mold in the coffee pot, lace curtains on the windows, and walls full of drywall patches and holes. It didn't look well kept. The photos aren't current, so check Yelp for newer ones. Don't book through a third party either. Booking.com wouldn't refund us and told us to work it out with the property, but the property ignored our messages and never replied.

The staff were kind, and the location is a convenient midpoint between downtown Nevada City and downtown Grass Valley. That's about all I can say in its favor. The inn seems privately owned and needs a lot of TLC. My family stayed in two rooms, and we were unsure whether to leave. We planned to use both pull-out beds, but one mattress was completely filthy, and both rooms' couches smelled strongly of urine. One cabin's heater was broken. The front desk offered space heaters, since apparently most of the pilots don't work. There was also quite a bit of poop and litter around the grounds in front of the cabins. I wouldn't stay again or recommend it to anyone.

The front desk woman was nice and helpful, but the stay was frustrating. We arrived at 12:45 p.m. and waited outside until 1:15, when the office opened after lunch. We were charged an extra $27 for checking in before 3, a fee I couldn't find mentioned online or on third-party sites. The windows had no screens and couldn't be opened, except for the bathroom window, which meant risking bugs and other critters. When we returned at 10 p.m. hoping to shower, room 20 had no hot water and the shower didn't work. The sink also filled up with water, so there are plumbing issues. Not a happy customer.

The bathroom window had been left open, and bugs were crawling in. There were bugs in the room too, the walls were falling apart, the door didn't lock properly, and the air conditioning and heater were broken. The room was disgusting and looked nothing like the booking-site photos. If you can afford somewhere else, I highly recommend staying there.
