Northern Queen Inn

I've heard the rooms can be hit or miss, but mine was clean and perfectly sufficient. The kind employees, the history, and the beautiful nature make it one of my favorite affordable hotels in town, even though it's no five-star place. I also like that it's dog-friendly. My dog has stayed with me there, and it's a great spot for dogs.

The setting is scenic and historic, the price is good, and the office staff were pleasant. But the rooms and property are neglected, and the beds feel like concrete. I wouldn't recommend it if you need a decent night's sleep. For a teenager or young adult who just needs somewhere to crash, it would probably be fine.

We were passing through and stayed one night. After reading the reviews, we asked to look at the room before booking. For the online price, it was a clean, spacious, perfectly adequate motel room on the upper floor of the long building. The building isn't new, but it's maintained well. The room had what I'd expect, including towels, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. The grounds were peaceful, and downtown was a short three-to-five-minute drive away. Staff were at the front desk 24/7 and helped us with an issue. I'd recommend it for a short stay.

The room was barely okay. It was clean, but the mattresses were lumpy, there were only three electrical outlets total and none on the bedstand, and the bathroom sink and tub/shower were very old. There was just one bathroom hook, so towels had to go in the shared outdoor area. The inn has several buildings and a large outdoor space, but it's unkempt. Driving in, I immediately felt I'd made a mistake booking it, though I couldn't change plans. It looked like people lived there. The check-in woman wasn't friendly or helpful, while the checkout woman was very pleasant. The office computer was so slow that check-in and checkout took 15 minutes each, when it should've taken five. The location was hard to find, even with Google Maps.
