Best Western Plus Newark/Christiana Inn

The women at the front desk were really nice, but there were several problems with the stay. The toilet had dried urine stains around the bolts, and the jacuzzi I'd booked the place for was taped off and unusable. At breakfast, the eggs and potatoes were cold, so we had to microwave them. The kids asked for ketchup or syrup, and neither was available.

I wanted some quiet time to myself as a mom of two little kids, and this was affordable and gave me a peaceful night away. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and breakfast and coffee were both delicious. Staff were polite, check-in and checkout were easy, the Wi-Fi worked well, and parking was plentiful. It's in a nice, safe area with lots of restaurants. The hot tub was out of order, which was a letdown since I hoped to soak. Sound carries between rooms, too. It's a budget hotel, so I could hear kids running in the hallway.

I'm here because the snowstorm left us needing a place overnight in Bear, DE, while I'm helping the plow crews clear the roads. Twice we were woken by a red Volkswagen Beetle speeding around the lot, nearly hitting my car and two others. The second time was at 11:45 p.m. I went down with my camera and saw three kids in the car, with a parent who looked like a crackhead. I reported it to the staff member at the desk, who was disrespectful and acted like he didn't care. I had to call the police because the lot was slick with snow and this was dangerous. The hotel has cameras, so why let guests race through the parking lot and wake people, then dismiss reports? I shouldn't have to pay for extra nights because irresponsible parents let their delinquent kids drive their vehicle and risk hitting guests' cars. A minor driving is illegal in every state. I hope the parents are arrested. I've never dealt with anything like this at a hotel. I need rest for the plow work, but this guest woke me twice.

We stayed here a year ago and it was clean and working properly, so seeing how far it's gone downhill was shocking. The pool area was freezing, cloudy, foul-smelling, and unusable, and the hot tub was broken. In the room, the walls were cracked, the sheets itchy, and the pillows awful. At 2 a.m., after a long day, we found silverfish crawling over the sheets and mattress. Bugs shouldn't be running over you while you're trying to sleep. Now I'm worried we'll bring them home and have to deep clean everything. There was also a bucket in the lobby catching water from a leaking ceiling. It stayed there for hours and into the next morning, blocking people and looking filthy. When we told the front desk about the bugs, the employee smiled and laughed, but did nothing to help. No apology, manager, or effort to address it. That indifference was unacceptable. This was the worst hotel stay I've ever had. Never again. Avoid this place.
