Garland Hotel

The free breakfast had plenty to choose from for everyone in our group, and the hotel spaces were clean and comfortable. We stayed in December to see the Christmas decorations in nearby Cambridge, Ohio, then visit family in the area. The Garland really played up its name, with festive holiday decorations throughout the lobby and breakfast area. It made for a delightful stay.

The staff were all friendly, and everywhere we went, from the room to the hallways, was so clean and well kept. Our room was spacious, with a balcony, and the shower was huge too. Wow, fantastic hotel. I can't say enough about how great our stay was.

The room had a little nook for a laptop, and there was plenty of space for a family with kids. Ours had two queen beds, a separate living room with a pullout couch, and a TV in each room. The Jack n Jill bathroom was huge, with an overhead shower and a seat. I was surprised by how much we got for the price. The hotel is just off I-70 between Cambridge and Zanesville, Ohio, so don't pass it up.

Truck drivers, this place has parking for bobtails and trucks with 53 foot trailers. Call ahead to check availability and whether other trucks are already there. There's a red dirt lot just past the hotel on the right. Pull in, turn around, and back in carefully. If you can, keep your steer tires and first set of drive tires on pavement, especially in rain or snow, so you keep traction and don't get stuck. The free laundry room has two stacked washer and dryer sets, which is a rare and valuable perk. Please clean up after yourself so everyone can keep using it. For food, Uber Eats is an option, or Sheetz across the street is a short walk and has a full kitchen. Down the hill, just outside the parking lot, Chevron sells reasonably priced basics like earplugs, razors, and shaving cream. The lobby floor needs care in wet weather. During my December 12 to December 14 stay, it was snowing, and the glossy tile felt extremely slippery, almost like glass coated in motor oil. Dry your feet after stepping off the entrance mat and walk slowly. It would be easy to slip or damage your phone. I honestly don't understand why this property has only two stars. It feels new or recently renovated, and the rooms are spacious, clean, and well designed. Breakfast was excellent and clearly well maintained. The coffee machine had several choices, including black coffee, cappuccino, latte, and hot chocolate. There were eggs, potatoes, sausage patties, and pancakes, and staff made a noticeable effort to keep everything fresh. I appreciated that. Customer service might explain the low rating. It wasn't bad, though a little more warmth or spark would help. Otherwise I have no complaints. The water pressure was excellent and left me feeling truly clean. That's important when I live on the road three weeks out of the month and shower when I can, rather than when I want. My stay was comfortable and very pleasant. I'd gladly return, and thanks to the Garland Hotel for a solid experience.
