A hop-on hop-off bus stop right outside makes this a convenient base for tourists. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the large parking lot had only a few cars, though parking costs $20 a night, which seems to be normal in the city. I only wished there’d been a rack to keep my suitcase off the floor. The lobby gift shop keeps unusual hours.

My sister and I came in on Amtrak's City of New Orleans, and the hotel was just a short Lyft ride away. I loved the lobby setup, with its gift shop, bus tour desk, cemetery tour desk, and pretty coffee bar. Having those different "vendors" there was fun. The location, staff, and decor were all great, and I enjoyed the stay immensely. It’s been almost a year since our two nights last January, but I’d happily stay here again. The Brakeman Hotel was one of the highlights of the trip. ✨

We could walk to all the places we wanted to see on our NOLA trip, so there was no need to rent a car. The hotel has upbeat vibes and sits inside a shop and museum, where you can also find out about and buy tours around New Orleans. Our room was nice and clean, though the bathroom wasn’t spotless. The location is absolutely perfect.

The building has a historic feel and has been redone beautifully. The staff were all warm, helpful, and welcoming. It’s a lovely little hotel within walking distance of the French Quarter, right on the edge of the busy area. If that’s the kind of spot you’re after, The Brakeman won’t disappoint.

The room was full of lovely woodwork and quirky touches, and it was spacious. The bathroom was one of the biggest I’ve had in a hotel, and the A/C had plenty of power for recovering after a hot day. The building used to be a train station, with a sweet little museum taking up most of the lower level. There’s also a café open until about 3 pm, though we left before getting to try it. We were only passing through on the way to Texas and needed one night, but I couldn’t pass this place up when I saw it online. After we went out for dinner, we came back to find lots of ants on a cup of tea I’d meant to put in the fridge. I showed the desk clerk, and he moved us to another room within minutes. He messaged his manager right away and I watched him file a maintenance ticket for the room, so they didn’t brush off the problem. It’s a gorgeous little property with inexpensive rates and a really pretty overlook of the cemetery next door. Very highly recommended!
