Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham New Iberia

The worst part came at checkout. I calmly told the same man who checked us in that this was the most disappointing stay, and he said, “well, you make big deal about everything.” I’d only seen him at check-in and check-out, and I should be able to tell staff about hygiene, care, and the quality of the stay. He said he could have refunded us if we’d raised our concerns, but then said he wouldn’t. Very rude and inappropriate. The pool was empty, with sludge and random debris, even though this state doesn’t get fall or winter weather. I won’t return and will tell people to avoid the place. A little genuine concern and customer service would have made a difference. We were there for one night at the last minute for a loved one’s funeral. Check-in was quick. The hallway was eerily lit and smelled as if there might have been water damage, despite empty plug-ins there. At first the room looked fine, but I found a light yellow stain and someone else’s hair on the bed sheets. I asked for clean sheets, and the attendant moved us to another room, saying the hotel didn’t have housekeeping to change them, presumably except in the afternoon. The sheets there looked better. We found old Chick-fil-A from a previous guest in the fridge, but threw it away and stayed since we only needed one night. When we came back to sleep, the towels had hair caught and woven into the fabric. I was too exhausted after the emotional day to ask my husband to get fresh ones or go myself. Breakfast the next morning was a thrown-together, half-done affair: an old drink machine, coffee or something in a warm metal dispenser, two cereals that looked a year old, no milk, bananas, three little unlabeled muffins (people with allergies beware), and wrapped honey buns, which were the best option. I went back to the room and ordered Waffle House. Breakfast matters to anyone, especially to me as a pregnant woman.

I liked the room, but the people upstairs were making so much noise that it was hard to sleep. They were very rude. 😡😡😡

Since the new owner took over about two years ago, the hotel has gone downhill. It’s dirty, there are roaches and other bugs, and the AC doesn’t always work. It’s just not good. Don’t trust the star rating.

The room was very clean, the service outstanding, and the location really convenient. Other guests got a little too loud and disruptive at times.
