The bed was badly worn and sloped into the middle, so we both ended up there on the king bed. It was very uncomfortable. There were large bugs on the ceiling when we arrived, possibly cockroaches, and the shower smelled bad, had stains on the curtain, and wasn’t clean. The hair dryer didn’t work, and they’d provided just one washcloth. The window curtain was old, torn, and seemed to be falling apart from sun damage. The carpet was new, but the furniture was very old and dirty. The shower had been redone, yet the showerhead was only about five feet high. Across the building, the work seemed rushed and poorly done. It felt like putting lipstick on a pig, with nothing done properly. If the contractor, designer, or whoever was in charge of the rehab worked for me, he’d be fired. I could go on, but it’s not worth it.
We booked through Priceline and left within 20 minutes of checking in because the room was completely unacceptable. I called right away and asked for a full refund, which was thankfully granted. The building section smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, and the bathroom was appalling. Floors were filthy, cupboards had visible mold, and the headboards were scratched and covered in writing. Under one bed’s sheets, we found what looked like dried skin debris. There was even a used, crusted paper towel inside the nightstand. I can’t understand how anyone could assign a room like that and think it was acceptable for guests. The property needs serious attention and oversight. In its current condition, it’s an embarrassment to offer rooms to the public, and I’d give it zero stars if I could.
The price was so good that I figured I knew what I was getting into, but the place was gross. Each area had its own weird odor. The hallways smelled like old curry, and my room had a mix of stale cigarette smoke and the Walmart checkout line on a hot, humid day. I’d been gone about an hour and could still smell it on me.
The only good thing was that the shower water got hot. After stepping out, though, I felt like I needed another shower. We were there for an event and thought it’d be convenient, but getting into the room was a mess. The first cards from the clerk wouldn’t get us upstairs. We waited in line for replacements, got upstairs, then those cards wouldn’t open our room. After another wait for a third set, the clerk came with us and they finally worked. The room smelled musty, like taking a big whiff of Grandpa’s old britches, and the worn-out mattresses felt like sleeping on box springs. The shower drain barely worked. The fabric headboards were scratched up and dirty, and we went next door for Lysol wipes to clean what we could and feel a little better. The hallways had crap all over the floor. The fan, heat, and AC unit had black mold, so we couldn’t use it. I’m worried we could get sick from being there. When we told the clerk about the problems at checkout, she just shrugged. I wouldn’t stay again. Spend the extra money and go elsewhere.
I checked out right away. Finding two live cockroaches in the room made it seem like there could be a serious infestation, with others hidden out of sight. That’s a major health and safety concern, and the room felt uninhabitable. The Quality Inn New Kensington came across as misleading guests about the condition and cleanliness of the property. The whole building felt run-down and dirty from the moment I walked in. In the room, the surfaces felt grimy, the carpets were stained, and it looked like it hadn’t had a proper deep clean in months, if ever. This was easily one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. Save yourself the hassle and risk of taking unwanted guests home, don’t stay here.
