The room felt a bit sad, with no comforter, just a top sheet, and no hand soap at the bathroom sink. The bed was very uncomfortable, firm in the wrong way, and the valet service didn’t show up on our first day, so we took an Uber to dinner instead of waiting for the car. The front desk team was great, check-in went smoothly, and everyone was friendly. We also got a welcome bag for having IHG status. The location is ideal if you want to be in the middle of the city, though Bourbon Street gets noisy, especially on weekends and during busy tourist season. We knew this was a historic hotel and didn’t expect it to be fully renovated. The property was generally clean despite being dated, and the water pressure was decent. We stayed one night, and the experience fell short.

The people made this stay memorable, from the first arrival to the billing issue. Caleb, the valet attendant, was professional, friendly, and quick to help with a smile, making coming and going stress-free. At the front desk, Cardi was welcoming and knowledgeable, and went out of her way to make sure things were right. Assistant Finance Director Assaf handled a billing error promptly and professionally, with real concern for customer satisfaction. He turned a potentially frustrating problem into an easy resolution and was absolutely awesome. My stay at the Astor Crowne Plaza New Orleans was great from beginning to end. Our bathroom smelled persistently from the first day, and extra blankets never arrived. The room only had a thin sheet and quilt. We also found out from another guest on our last day that breakfast vouchers were available, since nobody mentioned them at check-in. Frontline staff seemed to be doing their best under pressure, but the problems felt structural. Leadership should provide systems that work clearly and consistently for both guests and employees. At peak-season prices, operational precision shouldn’t feel optional. We stayed for Mardi Gras and appreciated the location and access to the parade balcony, but the experience didn’t meet a four-star standard. We expected crowds and lines. What frustrated us was inconsistent operations. Check-in was incomplete: guests got room keys without security credentials or vouchers, which we only learned about later through problems or other guests. For a predictable annual high-volume event, those materials could have been prepared and handed out together. Security used disposable paper wristbands that weren’t given to us at check-in. They aren’t waterproof, so I removed mine to shower and then forgot about it until nearly 24 hours later, when I tried to re-enter and was reprimanded. I was told my husband would need to get a replacement, even though the reservation was under my name and he wasn’t listed. Replacements reportedly cost $27.99. Enforcement seemed uneven across our group, which had five rooms. The front desk line was confusing too. Guests were told there was a queue, then that rule was immediately relaxed. The wait itself wasn’t the issue, the contradiction was.

Byron and Juan turned our trip around after we had a few room problems. They dealt with everything promptly and professionally, upgraded us, and made sure we were comfortable for the rest of our stay. Their kindness and attention made us feel welcome, cared for, and almost like family. My husband and I came from Chicago to New Orleans and had a wonderful visit at the Astor Crowne Plaza in the French Quarter. The location is fantastic and the atmosphere lively. Thanks to Byron and Juan, the service was exceptional. We’ll definitely return and recommend the hotel to anyone visiting New Orleans. 10/10 experience.
