The Lanaux Mansion

We loved the private courtyard at Sophie’s Cottage. The plants were lush, and the wall water feature made it a lovely place to sit with coffee, wine, water, and music. The main courtyards, just around the corner from our unit, were beautiful too, and it’s clear the staff take meticulous care of the plants and brick walkways. We’re thinking of bringing another couple next year, so we toured three other units. Wieland, downstairs across the main courtyard, was roomier than Sophie and would be a nice option for our guests. Upstairs in the main house, just above Wieland with its own separate entrance, we saw two more places. Beth’s Escape is a roomy, lovely two-bedroom with a balcony overlooking the courtyards, a good fit for two couples or a family staying longer than a weekend. Ruthie’s balcony suite has one bedroom and looks out over Esplanade, with a beautiful view and people to watch. Both upstairs units have easy access to the courtyards below. Their bathrooms were very comfortable, unlike the small bathroom at Sophie’s Cottage, which we accepted in exchange for having our own courtyard. The walk to the French Quarter was easy. I’m sensitive to noise at night, but it wasn’t an issue for me. The AC may have helped, and there’s also a sound machine. We made our usual trips to the French Quarter, though we prefer the atmosphere on Frenchman Street, where we found good jazz and food. We’d definitely stay again with our invited guests.
