We emailed several times months before the stay to ask for a lower-floor room because we had several suitcases, but never got a reply. They put us on the top floor, the fourth, and we had to haul six suitcases up for a one-night visit. The hotel itself is old and run down, and the room was very small.
The person at the front desk was extremely rude. I still haven't seen the rooms. I'll update this once I get inside, if she can find our reservation.
I pulled back the covers and found hair and lint on the bed, so it didn't feel like it had been cleaned.
For touring Manhatten, this is a great little place at a good price. Our cozy room was on the second floor, and each floor has a shared restroom. It's right by the Central Park North Subway stop, with Claire's Café and Dunkin nearby for breakfast and coffee. The walls are thin, and some street folks like to sing, so bring earplugs.
We stayed two nights in a very small room with a shared bathroom and shower. Carrying all our luggage up three flights of stairs was difficult, but that would've been manageable. At 3 a.m., a rat in the trash can woke us up, which was disturbing and uncomfortable. There was nobody from management or registration around to report it to, which was frustrating. I wouldn't recommend staying here. You can find a better place in the same location for the same price.
