After about 45 minutes of trying to get a usable room, we cancelled and asked for an immediate refund. The “manager” later apologized by email and said this “does not reflect their standards,” but after our experience in Staten Island, I’m not sure I believe that. The hotel isn’t managed by Radisson, either. A shady third party was involved and made us jump through a million hoops just to try to get a full refund. We had booked a couple of nights for a work trip that weekend. We knew it wasn’t one of the more expensive hotels, but plenty of other places at a similar price looked decent. Turns out looks can be deceiving. When we arrived around noon, we called to ask about early check-in and were told it was possible for a $50 fee. We passed and went to the hotel anyway to see if we could leave our bags. They said our room was ready, with no mention of the fee, which was both great and strange. Room 116 was a disaster: pizza boxes, trash all over the floor and overflowing the bin, an unmade bed, and a bathroom that smelled like someone might have been using it. I went straight to the front desk to complain. I think there was only one person working in the whole place. No apology, just “that’s weird..” and eventually a new room. Room 103 looked as though it had been serviced, until we saw a literal pile of human vomit down the bed skirt and on the floor. That was enough.

Melody was such a bright spot, always smiling, fun to talk to, and ready to help. The other staff we met were friendly too. We spent a week here as a family and were glad we gave the place a try. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, and the room was clean and nice when we arrived. I’d recommend Country Inn if you’re visiting Staten Island. You won’t regret it.

We came to celebrate my birthday, and the whole day was spoiled. We didn’t sleep for one full night, the elevator wasn’t working, and there was nowhere to park. The rooms smelled of cigarette smoke. Front desk staff seemed poorly trained and mishandled my credit card, swiping it twice. I’m still trying to get my deposit back. I asked for a refund, but they’re trying to offer points instead. Other hotels in the neighborhood are good. This was the worst hotel with the worst staff, and I’d give negative stars if I could.

The room was filthy, with gum caked onto the floor, and the bathroom and hallway smelled of mildew. My key card stopped working eight times over my three-night stay. Half the regular outlets were dead, and none of the USB outlets worked. Whenever I went to the desk to fix the card or check out, the receptionists were on their personal phones, on speaker with partners or friends. They didn’t mute the calls, but still asked personal questions to look up my reservation. The only good service came from the night staffer with reddish hair. I didn’t catch her name, and she’s the reason I’m giving two stars for service.

The property has three buildings, and this hotel is the one in the middle. It looked newly renovated, and the staff were friendly. I was there for only one night. Check-in includes a refundable $100 incidental charge. The room was clean and comfortable, though smaller than rooms I’ve had elsewhere. The bed was too hard for me, but tolerable for one night. I had to leave before breakfast, which was a shame because this is the first place I’ve seen with a pancake machine. Parking can be a problem when all three buildings are busy, since there aren’t enough spaces. If you park behind the building, there’s no side or rear entrance, so you have to walk all the way around. It isn’t far, but could be tough for someone with mobility issues. Still, it was a great stay overall, and I’d come back.
