The old-fashioned elevator is beautiful, though you can't operate it yourself. The furniture throughout the hotel had a nice traditional look, and the location in midtown Manhattan was great. The shower had two knobs to adjust the temperature, and the Wi-Fi got really slow in the evening. The rest was really good.

For food and convenience, it was a lovely hotel, and one of the nicest I've stayed in. I spent a week there, starting in a very nice front room and then moving to a suite at the back, both on what I think was the sixth or seventh floor. Later I renewed online and chose a slightly cheaper room one floor below. The rooms were very clean, and though there was a mouse visitor, it was tiny. I put food out for it, then it disappeared. There was a problem with the room change and I was asked to leave, perhaps because they discovered I'd been feeding the mouse. On later visits, there were no rooms available. The elevator required someone to accompany me, which was a little stressful, and it made getting around quite a long process. I would still highly recommend the hotel.

The old-fashioned elevator with an operator is a nice touch, but that age shows in the rooms too. We had a front-facing queen room with an ensuite bathroom. It looked fine, but the old windows let in a lot of noise from the busy NYC street, and the bathroom and room both seemed long overdue for updates. What really disgusted us was waking up the next morning covered in bed bug bites. I wouldn't recommend this place. There are much better hotels in the area for almost the same price.

The room runs way too hot, and I kept opening the window to cool it down. Individual temperature controls would help. Still, it’s a safe, comfortable place to sleep, with comfy beds, helpful friendly staff, and a central spot one block from the 6 train, with 24 food across the street. It’s no Hilton or fancy hotel, but it’s pretty good, especially since you don’t spend much time in the room.
