I never even saw Gloria, and the setup wasn't what I expected from a bed and breakfast. You get a room in what is basically a dorm, sharing the bathroom and kitchen with the people in your room and other guests. We shared with five other people, and breakfast was something we had to make ourselves. If that's the arrangement you're looking for, it may suit you. But I expected an actual bed and breakfast with breakfast provided, and this wasn't it.

Gloria is especially nice and helpful, which is why I've already booked another stay for after my visit to Niagara Falls. The neighborhood felt safe to walk through, even close to midnight on Friday. It's a six-minute walk to the train into Manhattan. The house doesn't look like much from outside, but my room was very clean and had what I needed. The bathroom was shared with one other room and was clean and practical. There's free Wi-Fi, and breakfast is self-serve in the kitchen, which worked well.

The only things I appreciated were that there were no cockroaches, the water was warm, and there was at least food available for us to prepare ourselves for breakfast. The pictures made the place look much nicer than it really was. We had reserved the day before, but the woman on the phone was rude and didn't seem to expect us. We couldn't find the place and waited 40 minutes for her in the dark in a bad part of Brooklyn. A man outside the gated apartment was haggling us, and I don't know what might have happened if she had taken longer. Once inside, we had to share the space and bathroom with four other men. The same woman let them in at 2:30 a.m., after letting us in at 11 p.m. They were loud, kept trying our room door, and seemed to be smoking weed around the house. I came out a couple of times to ask them to quiet down, but I barely slept between 2:30 and 5 a.m. because of the noise. It felt unprofessional and unsafe. Terrible place to stay.

The house was kept clean, towels were replenished, and I saw signs the bathroom was cleaned every day, though I'm not completely sure. It's also a good location if you need public transportation. Those were the few things that kept me from ruling out another stay altogether. I spent seven days there and still felt robbed and cheated. The website photos were misleading and looked vintage, with very outdated furniture and accessories. My room did have a few modern touches and, to my surprise, looked impressive at first. It was clean and airy, but extremely tiny, overpriced, and not suitable for two people. The bed was so uncomfortable and sloped that I had my boyfriend sleep at the end so I wouldn't roll off. Sharing a bathroom with complete strangers was unpleasant, and the toilet didn't flush properly. Having to flush again after other occupants was distasteful. The door locks also malfunctioned, and I wasted at least 20 minutes each day trying to open them. Calling this a bed and breakfast is misleading. I expect lodging where guests are catered to, but here the food was left in the fridge and on the table for us to prepare. No continental breakfast was served at set hours. The room wasn't cleaned and the bed linens weren't changed once, even though I'd expect that every day or every other day. At US$95 a night, sharing facilities, making breakfast, and making your own bed is too much. The website should clearly say the facilities are shared. Guests deserve to know what they're paying for. The name should be changed to something like dorm or hostel. Maybe I'd stay again because of the cleanliness, towels, and location, but I felt misled.

Gloria and Delon were very hospitable. The kitchen has food provided, and you can cook for yourself if you want. It's a cozy bed and breakfast, a few blocks from the L subway into Manhattan. JFK is close, too, with the tram and subway as options, or a cab that costs around $30-$40.
