I stayed for two months, came back for another two-month stay, and felt well looked after both times. The crew were sweet and took my wishes and needs seriously. The bathrooms were cleaned regularly, so sharing them was fine. Some showers were better than others, but with so many bathrooms in the building, I could always find a good one. Everything felt clean, and I never saw signs of bugs or other hygiene problems. There’s no kitchen, but they brought a microwave to my room for free when I asked, and I paid an extra monthly fee for a fridge. That worked well for me. The area felt safe, and it was reassuring to have someone at reception all the time. It’s close to places in both Manhattan and Brooklyn, and if you like walking, you can reach central Manhattan sights or even Williamsburg on foot. Just know it’s an old building, the internet can be weak, and the heaters sometimes make noise. Whenever I needed help, the staff did what they could. Good value in a quiet spot, with comfortable beds, helpful staff, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of places to eat nearby. We could walk to everything and found the location ideal during a busy time. The shared showers were cleaned regularly, and we never had to wait. Don’t let the shared facilities put you off. It’s hard to find something this affordable so close to everything.

The old building was very clean, shared bathrooms included, and we found it a great value for Manhattan. We’d booked the wrong room type, but a kind Indian gentleman at the desk upgraded us to a twin room for free and was very helpful. The elevator didn’t always work. The location was quiet but central, with the subway close by.

A few years ago, I was leaving Hotel 17 after a great stay when Crispin Hellion Glover came in with a friend or assistant to check in. We made eye contact, so I nodded. He pulled out his phone and had what looked like a heated argument with absolutely nobody, then Crispin Glovered the Hellion right back out while his assistant finished checking in. 10/10, I’d stay again.
