The pool being closed from 1 to 5 PM was odd. I've stayed at plenty of hotels with pools, including cheaper places like Holiday Inn and Courtyard, and hadn't seen one shut for several daytime hours before. The bedding was another letdown. Westin changed its pillows sometime in the last year, from ones with just the right firmness and thickness to very thick, hard pillows, and the comforter is less comfortable now too. Sleeping at a Westin has gone from enjoyable to a challenge. That seems to be a brand-wide change, not just this hotel. We expected a lot because this Westin calls itself the only five-star hotel in Flushing, and the stay disappointed in several ways. Still, the decor is nice, the scent is appealing like at other Westins, the room was clean and nothing was broken, and the location is convenient. I probably won't stay at a Westin again because of the uncomfortable bedding.
Anya Jae (Aj) at the front desk made our honeymoon feel extra special by surprising us with treats and a lovely room upgrade. My husband and I are so grateful to be celebrating here. When we returned, Quincy was kind and quick to get our luggage sorted so we could head up to our room. 10/10, we'd happily stay again and recommend it!
The room itself was fine: clean, recently renovated, and with decent hardware. But the service and basic guest experience didn't match a roughly USD 300 nightly rate or the Westin name. At check-in nobody mentioned that bottled water was limited to two bottles for the whole stay, with refills expected at the hotel's water center. I'd thrown mine away thinking they'd be replaced daily, and then had no drinking water. The tap initially had visible white particles, so I was relying on bottled water even more. The coffee maker was broken when I arrived and wasn't replaced until the next day. Housekeeping never replenished the tea bags either. I've stayed at other Westins without these problems. Hilton or Sheraton seem to offer better value and consistency based on this experience, and until these service gaps improve I can't recommend this hotel. Even a Holiday Inn sounds like a better deal, since they usually include breakfast.
I was charged a pet fee even though the dog wasn't staying at the hotel. At check-in, they had me sign a form saying it would cost $150 per night if I had a dog. I explained my friend was only helping drop off my luggage and would be gone within ten minutes. Staff said there'd be no fee if we left within fifteen minutes, and we were gone in five. Two days later the charge was still there. The hotel promised a refund after I suggested they check the cameras, but never processed it. When I called again, they said there was nothing they could do because I signed the form. That doesn't make sense when the form was for overnight pets, and that didn't happen. There was no heat in my room, the soundproofing was poor, and the bathroom had a huge floor area but a tiny shower that sent water everywhere. A very disappointing, unprofessional stay. Be careful, they may charge you unfairly. I wouldn't come back or recommend the hotel.
Recently found this newly remodeled hotel, and it was a good place to stay overnight between flights. It's between JFK and LaGuardia in NYC, with a gym, steam room, restaurant, and bar on site. The staff were helpful, the price was great, and there's a shuttle to and from LaGuardia only. I'll definitely stay again.
