Hotel Seville Nomad, in the Unbound Collection by Hyatt

The front desk was helpful, and the room was a decent size for New York, with a queen bed. In winter, $350 a night seemed reasonable. The location worked well, near Koreatown and NoMAD restaurants, and within walking distance of Union Square and Grand Central. There was no bellman at the entrance, so we had to carry our own bags up the stairs.

We checked into an 11th-floor room facing a brick wall, despite our Hyatt status, and the staff seemed not to care. The lobby bar was under construction, which nobody mentioned when we booked; drapes put up to hide it looked tacky. The website advertises the Seville bar all over and makes it seem like part of the hotel. On Tuesday night we found it wasn't, and the place was dead. They wouldn't let anyone in, saying they weren't taking any more walk-ins. This hotel is a joke. I hope this helps people avoid it. The stay has me reconsidering whether I'll ever use Hyatt again.

Being able to walk everywhere was a huge plus: we went to a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, visited the Empire State Building, and had restaurants and shopping just minutes away. Step outside and you're right in the middle of NoMad. We loved our stay in this historic building and would absolutely return. Hotel Seville NoMad gave us the classic New York experience we wanted. The landmarked building has real character, and its management by Hyatt brings polished, professional hospitality alongside the old-world feel. The hallways are tight and the rooms are small, but they were clean, comfortable, thoughtfully designed, and well equipped. If you like historic architecture and a walkable city hotel, it's a great choice. Five stars.

The elevators were a problem at busy times: only two of the three were working, they felt too small for the crowds, and the lines got long. The room was small and plain, with the toilet awkwardly tucked into a bathroom corner. For what it offered, the hotel was overpriced, and I felt they were trying to squeeze out every penny while giving us poor accommodations. The booking listed valet parking at $80 a day, but the valet attendant later said we would be charged every time we used the service. That was only explained after we'd used it twice. I also had to pay nearly $300 on top of what I'd already paid for the so-called "destination fee". It shouldn't have been charged in the first place.
