We had a lovely view of One World Trade Center, which made the stay feel special. The room was comfortable, and I liked the modern, pleasant look of the décor and common areas. The facilities were great, too. The Washington Hotel is right in the Financial District, convenient for downtown attractions and transit. I booked through Expedia and got an excellent holiday-season deal in December, around Christmas. Great value for the price, and I’d stay again.

The view was one of the best parts of our stay, and the room was spacious, clean, quiet, and had a very comfortable bed. The location is hard to beat, with the World Trade Center two minutes away, a 7-Eleven next door, and the subway just steps from the hotel. Staff were friendly and efficient. Check-in and checkout were quick, the housekeepers were kind and attentive, and the fast, reliable Wi-Fi and pleasant lobby were nice to have. I appreciated that the $150 deposit was returned just two days after the stay. The water dispenser in the lobby was a serious problem. It seemed to have mold inside, and green particles came out when I tried to get hot water. It’s the only way to get drinking water and needs immediate attention. There are only two elevators for floors 5 and up, so waits could be long. The bathroom could use a better layout too. You can still clearly see silhouettes through the frosted glass between the shower and bedroom, and the bathroom door lock didn’t work. Even with those issues, the price for New York was excellent and I’d recommend the hotel. A few improvements could make it a five-star stay.

The bathroom had a large shower, but the faucet and door placement left the entire room flooded after each shower. We couldn’t dry the bath mats quickly enough, and the sink didn’t drain well either. From our 12th-floor room, the living area faced the World Center, while the bedroom looked directly at a neighboring building’s structure. Construction noise there ran from early morning to late at night. We had booked the most expensive option, the King Deluxe Suite with City View, hoping it would be comfortable and well kept after reading the reviews. Instead, it was worn and neglected, with scratched furniture and floors and cigarette burns on upholstered pieces. The photos didn’t match what we found, and we didn’t feel comfortable walking barefoot or sitting on the couch. There was no coffee maker or other appliance, no glasses, and lots of empty cabinets and storage. It wasn’t worth the price at all. Much better accommodation is available elsewhere for less.

The Financial District is the main reason to stay here, with lots of tourist sights nearby, and the lobby was probably the best-looking part of the hotel. The staff were nice, and there’s a $150 deposit, which I’m still waiting to get back. I stayed for about four nights on a much-needed visit after living in NYC all my life and moving to the South. The hotel itself looks old. None of the elevators worked, and the bathroom tiles seemed dusty. They moved me because my first room was poorly maintained. There was no fridge or microwave, just a water fountain in the lobby and an ice machine on the room floors. It feels like the hotel may have been a hot spot when it first opened, but for me this was a one-and-done stay.

The location is good, facing one trade centre, but the room was dirty and uncomfortable. We had a room for four, yet the shower was see-through. The Expedia photos were misleading, and we got stuck on one floor and couldn’t get back to the elevator. I don’t understand how a floor can have no stairs. The staff were very rude. I’m used to Canadian hospitality, so I’m not sure if it’s an American thing. Even if the room were free, I wouldn’t recommend it. You can find better places for the same price.
