Kimpton Ashbel New York Park Avenue

I slept so well on the incredibly comfortable mattress, and the rooms were spotless. You can tell they pay close attention to cleanliness. The decor is modern and stylish while still cozy and relaxing, and everything looked new and thoughtfully designed. The staff were friendly, attentive, and ready to help with whatever I needed, so the stay felt easy and comfortable. The Kimpton Ashbel is the best place to stay.

There are loads of great restaurants and bars around the corner, and you can walk just about everywhere from this new hotel. Exploring New York was easy and fun from here. The staff were genuinely welcoming and friendly, giving the place a relaxed, warm feel from the minute I arrived. It’s fresh and stylish, and already somewhere I want to return to again and again. I’m counting down until the coffee shop opens. That’ll be the finishing touch, so I’ll have to plan another visit. Can’t wait!

For the cost, the rooms are simply too small and awkwardly arranged to be comfortable. I could barely fit my shoulders through the bathroom doorway, and the bathroom felt almost unusable. The room itself felt more like a cruise ship cabin than a hotel room. Some of the design details seemed unfinished too. Cords were visibly hanging out, and the coffee maker was so close to the TV that it hit the bottom of the screen when used. The layout didn’t feel well thought out, and the overall design came across as sloppy. I know this is a newer Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants property that’s still finding its footing, but it was the most disappointing one I’ve stayed at and didn’t meet what I expect from the brand. A few adjustments might help with the space and design issues, but as it is, the rooms are too cramped and awkward.

I booked a room for Christmas with my family back in September, knowing the hotel was being renovated and was supposed to reopen in November. Two weeks ago, I checked that the reservation was still okay and was told everything was fine. Now, only 9 days before check-in, they’ve emailed to cancel because the hotel is still closed. I’m left having to find another hotel at incredibly high prices. This is completely irresponsible and shows a complete lack of respect.
