Delta Hotels by Marriott New York Times Square

The location is super convenient, with lots of food nearby. Times Square is an easy walk, as are most Broadway shows, Disney and Universal stores, and Javitz. The value was pretty good, and the hotel was very affordable. Rooms are small, especially for more than two people: our three-person group had six suitcases and felt cramped. The layout is odd, and some room doors open right onto the elevators. The main problem inside was the prison-style showers without doors, which made it inconvenient for someone else to use the bathroom while a person was showering. The atmosphere was okay. The hotel smelled like restaurant food mixed with the fancy scent pumped through the air system, and I felt the food smell stuck to our clothes. There are dining options in the hotel, and they looked nice.

The floor in room 809 felt cracked and like it was giving way, so I left immediately. A colleague had a similar experience last week and hadn't warned me. The hotel looks worn, which I could have accepted, but safety is where I draw the line. I can't believe Marriott would put its name on this place. I'm a loyal Bonvoy member, and this has shaken my confidence in Marriott. I'm not asking for a refund. Please keep anyone out of that room until the floor is repaired. I gave it one star because I don't know whether zero is possible.

Tiambo from the bag room and bell staff was our favorite. He was friendly every time we saw him, remembered us, and always made conversation. Our room was cleaned daily during our three nights, and the hotel felt safe, clean, and well maintained. The beds were really comfortable, too. There are filtered water refill stations on each floor, and you can pick up complimentary flavorings at the desk.

The service was fine, and for the price the location near Times Square gives you access to plenty. The bartenders were working hard, though the bar service was slow and they seemed to be handling several jobs at once. I'd come back if I had to, but not by choice. The ventilation barely worked, fan on or off. With windows that don't open, smells from food or anything else could hang around for hours. The elevators were another pain: they moved quickly once you got on, but waiting could take as long as ten minutes. For what you get, 2.5-3 stars seems about right.
