Orchard Street Hotel

This was my second time booking a room here at the last minute, and I’ve had excellent service both times. Shamira makes booking easy, while the guys in the morning make checkout hassle-free. The rooms are clean and the wifi works great. If I need a nearby hotel, they’ll be my first choice.

The room was small, but I didn’t need more. It’s a great hotel for couples or solo travelers, in a good area with plenty of nearby bars and good food. The rooftop was amazing, a lovely place to watch the snow fall and have breakfast. Shamira was an amazing host and gave me great recommendations. She even wished me a happy birthday.

The location is hard to beat, close to everything desirable, with easy trips to Brooklyn, uptown, or Chinatown. My room was very clean and the rooftop was nice, but it was tiny and had several annoyances. The tile floors meant I could hear everything in the hallway and even feel doors closing too hard. I had my sound machine on max. There was no lamp or switch by the bed, so I had to turn off the overhead light and walk to bed in the dark. The shower wasn’t hot enough, but they fixed it the next day, as well as the broken toilet paper holder. The roller shade was either fully open or closed, and there wasn’t enough tension to leave it partway. There was no room for a luggage rack, though I was traveling solo. It’s fine if you can get a low price and don’t mind noise. I wouldn’t pay over $200 a night, and unfortunately I was there at an expensive time. You live and learn.

We checked in on 12/30 and left first thing the next morning because the rooms were dirty and unkempt, and there were bugs. We’re still trying to get a refund for the unused nights, but we’re being ignored and told different things. They said they needed “manager approval,” and I’ve called and emailed every day. We stayed here in 2018 and loved it, so we came back for the memories. It’s sad to see how badly the rooms have been kept, and now we’re left with a horrible memory of the place. This is unacceptable. No one should stay here. Do better.
