For the price, this felt like a pretty typical NYC stay, but I’d look elsewhere next time. The hotel seems to be aiming for a modern, stylish look, yet there’s wear and tear everywhere: lobby and restaurant furniture and carpeting, room furniture, elevators, and deeply stained bathroom tiles. Rooms are tiny even by NYC standards, with no room to open the luggage rack, though there is a chest of drawers. The furnishings, carpet, drapes and bathroom all look worn, with artwork used to spruce things up. Basics like tissues and bedding suited to the season were missing; the comforter was basically a blanket. The add-on charges are the worst part. Internet crawls unless you pay to upgrade, and fridges and coffee makers are removed unless you pay extra. Some of our group got a food and beverage credit and some didn’t, despite using the same booking link. It only covered food from the on-site restaurant and Crunch fitness downstairs, since there’s no separate gym. It didn’t cover gift shop snacks, and depending on the employee at checkout, rules like not using it on the checkout day might be applied. The restaurant isn’t worth it: the buffet costs $36.79 and feels like a hospital cafeteria, while better deals are easy to find. Some of our group also had a “resort fee” added to their bills, while others didn’t.
The room was clean and smelled fine, with a comfortable bed and mostly comfortable pillows. Heating and cooling worked well, though the room felt dim even with every lamp on. It had a king bed, TV, two closets, and a smaller bathroom. My room also had a Keurig and fridge, but I learned those appliances weren’t standard. They seemed to be first come, first served, including the microwave. I asked for a microwave almost every day during my two-week stay before finally getting one. They said my name was on a list, but I think following up was what got it. At a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel in 2026, I feel all rooms should have a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The staff I met were all very friendly; the doormen were consistently pleasant and helpful, and the desk staff were courteous. The whole hotel, including the lobby and common areas, was clean and well maintained. The noise was loud and obnoxious, so I used earplugs when I could. There was even a pair in the bedside table for “NY’s loud noises.” Ice machines were available on only about six of the 27 floors. The hotel is in a great midtown spot near a subway station and Grand Central, with easy access to many familiar sights. Having the Crunch gym downstairs was nice; it’s small but has enough for a good workout, and the staff there were friendly. I only went once because I was short on time. Breakfast cost $36 at the time, but I didn’t try it, so I can’t comment. I’d stay again, though I’d be frustrated without a fridge or microwave and would choose a hotel that guarantees them.
We slept really well, with comfortable beds and no interruptions. Our room on the 28th floor was beautiful and spacious, with a somewhat nice view. We had a plumbing problem, though: the toilet clogged on two of the four days, and we had to call the front desk to get it fixed. Nearby Metro stations are about a five- or eight-minute walk, so getting around is easy. There’s also a cute little lobby shop for basic things you might run out of, and the hotel gave us free water, two free city bike passes each day, and Wi-Fi. The extra daily credits for food and beverage and laundry, plus free gym access, were a nice surprise. We stayed over New Year’s Eve and into early January. The location in Manhattan is fantastic, with lots of tourist attractions within walking distance. You can’t go wrong here in winter or summer. Highly recommend the hotel.
I’ve stayed here before, but the place has gone seriously downhill. I’d rather book a nicer Marriott near noisy Times Square than deal with this rude, worn-out environment. The rooms are small, dingy and increasingly rundown. In my first room, next to an elevator bank, loud clanging sounded every time the elevator moved. The phone didn’t work, and the desk chair’s pleather was peeling. I asked to move, but the replacement room smelled strange, had a noisy heater, and furniture in poor shape too. I was also asked to show my key as I entered the hotel, which felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. I was dressed professionally, and I’ve never had this happen at another Marriott. It left me feeling singled out because of my skin color.
I’d read plenty of recent bad reviews, so the stay was a pleasant surprise. It’s an older hotel, but clean and cozy. When booking, I mentioned that we were celebrating my daughter’s 18th birthday. Even though the hotel was busy, they gave us early check-in, a room on the 18th floor, and cake and chocolates in the room. That was lovely. Breakfast was included in our package, delicious, and had a great variety. They also provided complimentary bottled water. The location was great, in a quieter area but close to everything. A great stay.
