I watched the security guard shout the same thing at several people just walking by. When I was waiting for my Uber on the public sidewalk, he came out yelling that I couldn’t stand there because it was “on private property.” I was clearly on the city sidewalk, wasn’t blocking the entrance, and wasn’t causing trouble, but he kept berating me. Then he stood outside staring me down until my car arrived. The whole thing felt hostile and uncomfortable for no reason. Completely unacceptable from someone representing an alleged hotel or bar in New York City. If they treat pedestrians like this on public property, I can only imagine how they treat paying guests. There are plenty of places here that understand basic hospitality and public decency. This isn’t one of them.

The room was tiny, and they seemed pretty casual about keeping my money. They told me over and over to swipe my card again because it was supposedly declining, then charged it four times. I never got any of that money back. I called repeatedly, but nobody picked up or replied to my emails.

I used to hang out here but hadn’t been in a while, so I came back to check it out. A few people were milling around the front desk when I walked in, along with an aggressive security guard who said I was on private property and had to leave right away. Really strange. I don’t know why the sign is still up. Best to avoid.

The view of the Empire State Building was great, and the atmosphere was cool. The bartender was excellent.

We went last Friday and were met by a very polite soldier in full uniform. I’ll give him credit for kindly pointing us to a rooftop bar at the hotel next door, which was still open. It seems this place is closed now and is an asylum shelter, though I don’t see that mentioned in the reviews or on the maps page.
