Washington Square Hotel

It's my favorite hotel for a reason. It's old and small, sure, but I got a free upgrade and a great view. The beds are hard but comfortable. The TV didn't work, which was annoying since I sleep with one on, bad habit, I know. It wasn't a deal breaker, so I mentioned it at checkout. I could live in this hotel.

Service was great, the location was perfect, and I loved having breakfast included. But I booked the deluxe quad room through Washington Square Hotel's own website expecting something close to the photos, and the room was very different. I know rooms can vary, but this was the first time I'd ever asked reception to confirm I had the right room. The pictures for this exact room type showed three windows, lots of space and light, and a bathroom with two sinks. Mine had one window, little natural light, and one small sink. I attached photos so future guests can make an informed choice. There also seemed to be a mini fridge and Keurig in the website photo, but neither was listed as an amenity, so I'm not holding that against the hotel. For me, Washington Square Hotel gets 3/5 solely because of the misleading photos. If some rooms look like the photo and others don't, they should be listed separately at different prices. I'd have been happy with a one-window, one-sink room if I'd paid for that. Instead, I splurged thinking I was getting a nicer room. Management should update the website photos to represent the rooms better. The hotel is lovely, but this wasn't a great experience.

The staff were welcoming and helpful, and they follow up if you leave something behind. Rooms were okay, and I loved the spacious rainfall shower with its different settings. I'd give it a fair three stars: it does the job and is budget-friendly compared with other places, with the metro just a two-minute walk away and connections to all the important places. The room had major climate problems. Even with the radiator off, we couldn't cool it down. There were few amenities, such as a kettle or coffee maker, and the included breakfast was very basic, though I don't usually have breakfast there.

I stayed at The Washington Square Hotel from Oct 14-19, 2025 and was very happy with the experience. Check-in was easy, and the front door clerk even came upstairs with my license after I left it downstairs. The room was spacious enough for me, with a super comfortable bed and perfect pillows. My one small complaint was that the mattress pad or topper was fuller in the middle than at the edges, so I had to kind of climb into bed. Once I was in, it was perfect. The toiletries were good quality, including bath products from C.O. Bigelow, a New York company founded in Greenwich Village just up the block. The elevators are small, but not too small. I once rode down with four other people and we all fit comfortably. Sometimes you share the elevator with the custodial staff, which really isn't an issue. Everyone on staff was friendly, and I didn't run into a single problem. The location is excellent, with restaurants, bars, and shops within three blocks. I'd highly recommend it and will book again.
