Embassy Suites by Hilton Newark Wilmington South

We picked this Embassy for a holiday visit with family because we like the brand and had stayed at other Embassy locations. What a disappointment and waste of money. We did get to check in early, which was nice, but the room had stained couch cushions, a shower falling apart, a musty, moldy fridge, and water stains on the ceiling. Breakfast the first morning was a mess, with no buffet and just one cook trying to make omelets, scrambled eggs, pancakes, and breakfast meats. People waited 15 minutes for hot food that wasn’t even hot. My sausage links were cold, and the pancakes tasted of peppers and onions because he cooked everything on the same grill without cleaning it. I threw mine away and got the family apples, yogurt, and juice. Breakfast was the same each day, so we skipped it for the rest of the stay. There was a weed smell everywhere in the hotel, and guests left their doors open while kids ran around. People ran and yelled through the night and let doors slam like nobody else was there. Completely ridiculous. I absolutely don’t recommend this location. The best part was the attached TGI Fridays.

It’s bad weather, and new arrivals could use a drink in the lobby. Free coffee and water are usually easy to find at hotels, and having complimentary coffee here would improve my stay and plenty of other people’s too. I’ve stayed before, when they used to leave it out. Back then everything felt nicer, and guests were treated with the respect and comfort you’d expect from a somewhat fancy hotel with marble floors. No coffee, though, so I’d stay away.

After a red-eye from Washington State, I arrived early and Siedah greeted me with a smile. She went out of her way to find me a room and make me comfortable, knowing I’d been on a plane, in a car, and on a bus. She treated my problems like they were hers. That sort of service is refreshing these days. The whole staff was attentive, and the hotel was spotless. The breakfast team were friendly and kept offering help. Breakfast looked beautiful and tasted delicious. I just wanted to say thank you!

Three lights in the room were out, and when I contacted the front desk, they ignored me. The couch was covered in stains and looked absolutely disgusting. The rooms aren’t clean, and I wouldn’t shower in the questionable bathroom. The pool and area around it were filthy, with trash everywhere. It clearly isn’t checked often. The place has gone downhill, and at this price I’d expect it to be much cheaper if it’s going to look like this. I wouldn’t recommend it.
