My daughter had just gone through a distressing situation and was in tears, feeling very anxious, when Dainene at the front desk stepped in to help. My daughter was checking in on a reservation I’d made from Florida, and since I was across the country, I couldn’t sort things out myself. Dainene went above and beyond, even using her own money to make sure my daughter was looked after. Her compassion, kindness, understanding, and generosity made my daughter feel truly welcome at the Holiday Inn Express Sitka. She was a delight and a blessing. Thank you for having such an incredible person on your team. I’ll always be a patron and will enthusiastically share this story and recommend your hotel.

We’ve been staying at HIE-Newberg for years, at least 10 days every year, through holidays and since our grandchildren were born. Past visits were generally good, but this year was one of our most uncomfortable. Staff didn’t seem to respond to our request for the room we like because it’s quiet. Management appeared to prioritize a nearby college’s “graduating” class over guests’ comfort and peaceful sleep. Other guests stomped around upstairs and slammed doors, behaving like bad neighbors. We complained, but it fell on deaf ears. This hotel isn’t the cheapest around, nor the most expensive, so we’re left wondering why management and ownership value filling rooms over guests’ experience. Housekeeping left towels on the bathroom floor on two of our five days. There was no iron in the room during our six-day stay, and the bathroom light had a short or defective bulb that flickered while I was bathing, which I found disturbing. Will we book here again? Let’s see how the owner or management responds and whether they can earn our loyalty back. Stay tuned.

An absolutely miserable night. There’s no ceiling insulation, so from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. we could hear people upstairs stomping and talking. We told the desk, but nothing changed. The shower was so forceful it was hard to use without soaking the room. The room was stripped down, with too few towels, no service phone, and no remote. Don’t stay on the bottom floor. In the 21st century, I don’t understand why the walls, especially the floors, aren’t soundproofed. The manager said they’d comp our night, so we stayed another night. When the bill came, it looked like the free night hadn’t been removed. I went back to dispute it, and the representative said, “oh yeah it’s off.” It wasn’t. They were going to charge me twice. Check your receipts, because after promising a free night, these people still tried to charge me. I’ll never return.

J’s Restaurant next door is a good option for dinner, and there’s plenty of parking. The property is very well kept. My king room was spacious and tidy, with all the amenities you’ll need, and the front desk woman was really nice. Another great stay at an IHG property.
