Hampton Inn Atlanta - Newnan

After a long day on the road, we arrived just after midnight and found there was no shampoo for a shower. The hotel smelled like my grandmother’s house, which tracks with it being built in 1996. At 4:30 AM, the smoke alarm started chirping and woke us all up. I’ve never had a worse night’s sleep at a hotel. Then we found the elevator was broken and had to haul all our luggage up the stairs.

I was glad they let me check in early for free, but a lot of the stay was inconvenient. The elevator has been out all week, so I had to use the stairs, and with my car in the back lot I never made it to breakfast. The ice machine area smelled musty and mildewy each time I passed it going up and down three flights. Garbage was piled in a big cart by the back door, blocking the rear doors and walkway, apparently because there’s no dumpster on site. The rooms look dated, though it seems they’re trying to remodel: the hall carpet is new and the stairwell was freshly painted, but my room’s carpet was old. I didn’t get my Diamond Water or Snack. The shop had very limited drink and snack options. I didn’t use the pool or exercise room, so I can’t speak to those.

We stay here often for business, but this visit was a letdown. The bathroom needs more hooks for wet towels and washcloths, and its lights are so dim I could barely see. The outlet is by the door, which is awkward for a hair dryer or razor. The tub’s handicap bar is on the back wall, where it doesn’t help much getting in or out, instead of near the entrance. The closet’s magnetic catch looks cobbled together. The room could use updating and some attention.

The front desk service was great, but the hotel feels dated. Rust ran down the shower walls and the carpet had visible stains. With the recent cold weather, I expected the hot breakfast bar to be warmer. The potatoes were cold and the omelets only warm.
