Econo Lodge Ft. Eustis

The beds were so comfortable, I got the best sleep I’ve had on tour. The inn is right in the center of things, with restaurants, pubs, and convenience stores all an easy walk away. Had a great stay.

I needed a single room for one person and wanted to ask about a weekly rate, depending on what I needed. The desk clerk was unbelievably rude, nasty, and condescending. As I walked in, a couple was leaving and warned me their reservation had been canceled without notice. They said they’d spent an hour and a half arguing over a refund, even though they hadn’t canceled it themselves. Be wary of the rates and services they advertise, and of everything about this place. They’re part of the Oyo group in Newport News, and the other hotel, an economy 7, is just as bad. I’m ashamed I spent money and stayed there, but I had to clean cockroaches out of my luggage and clothes, throw away my toothbrush, and run the soft luggage I could through the dryer to steam and clean it. They’re a very bad group to deal with, beyond rude, and they don’t care. They told me, “I don’t care, pack up and leave.” I’m going downtown while working in Newport News anyway, and I’m going to stop at the local center for business development and growth to ask how an operation like this is allowed to open its doors.

I’ve stayed at two OYO hotels, and both had cockroach infestations and people living there as tenants instead of regular guests. These hotels are trash holes. I can’t believe Priceline lists them on its booking app.

I’ve had the same problem three times when arriving after paying online: either I’m asked to pay for the room again, or he says he can’t find the booking. I’m not going back anytime soon.
