The decision to leave came after we were charged a $250 violation fee because our truck broke down on the property. It was just a serpentine belt that had popped off and needed replacing. My husband is a mobile mechanic and earns a decent living working on other people's vehicles, but he was fixing our truck after it left us stranded. The manager came outside and told him he wasn't supposed to work on cars there. We understood the rule, but explaining the situation didn't help. We refused to pay the fee, and were told our contract wouldn't be renewed. We saw another guest working on his vehicle all day without anyone saying anything. We also saw people with pets, though we were told before arrival that pets weren't allowed. Strong weed smells in the halls didn't seem to count as a violation either. The trouble with the truck came after we'd already spent almost three weeks at the Oyster Point location. At first the staff seemed friendly, but we couldn't get comfortable on the mattress. We asked a few times for another mattress or a different room. Each time, we were told there were no rooms available and that they'd see about getting another mattress. Management didn't follow up, but the maintenance man brought one over. Unfortunately, it was no better. We kept to ourselves, paid on time, and tried not to cause problems. I wonder if our repeated questions about the mattress contributed to them trying to push us out. I could understand a $250 fee if my husband had seriously damaged the parking lot, but this felt extreme. There was also an evening when I came in to reactivate my key because I work during the day and my husband had paid for the next week before I got back. The manager was in a corner and seemed to have an attitude when I approached. She didn't greet me warmly. In general, I felt a dark energy there, and wondered if they only cater to certain people. Maybe this place suits people who have nowhere else to go or have had a rough time, but you never know what someone's going through. People deserve the same respect regardless of how you see them. Management and staff should be careful how they treat guests, because you never know who might be taking note of the surroundings and activities. The place gets mixed reviews, and it seems some people have a better experience than others. I'll never come back, but I hope this helps others know what to expect.
My husband and I stayed at Intown suites for a couple of weeks while looking for a place nearby, and it has been a very nice experience. The grounds are well kept, the rooms are thoroughly cleaned, and the hotel as a whole is well maintained. Staff are kind and helpful, and it's refreshing to stay somewhere that puts customers first after bad experiences elsewhere. We've even had terrible treatment at bigger chain hotels, so we appreciate the care here. The staff deserve recognition for being so kind and helpful. The beds are a bit uncomfortable because of my health issues, though for the price I understand. It would be nice to have an outdoor seating area for smokers, in my opinion. Adding bunky boards or box springs under the mattresses might give them more support. Those are small things for corporate to consider, if possible. Otherwise, it's a very good extended-stay hotel.
My husband and I are fairly new to VA, and this is the first place where extending our stay has gone well. I feel safe and comfortable here, and that's what matters most to me. The staff are kind and wonderful. Nicole has made things go smoothly and is great at what she does. Communication here is 10/10, and housekeeping gets 10/10 too. I'm very grateful for everything Nicole has done and continues to do to make everyone's stay accommodating.
The good parts are that the grounds and facility are mostly clean, the guests are generally quiet, and there is plenty of storage in the living room and bathroom. Occasionally, residents leave kitchen trash on the stairwell landing. Privacy is a problem, though. Someone always seems to knock, often without a good reason, so anyone working nights and trying to sleep during the day would have a hard time here. The mattresses are extremely hard. I'm also concerned about the maintenance person, Sam. On one occasion, I saw him knock, call out, then enter a guest's room while they were away. He looked around for about a minute and left. The guest hadn't requested service, and Sam didn't knock on other doors, so it didn't seem like general maintenance. Another time, I saw him peeping through a female guest's peephole. When he heard my family member in the hallway, he went toward the stairway. The woman opened her door and asked my family member whether Sam had been looking through her peephole. I saw him peeping through our peephole on a third occasion, then trying to open our door with his card. It was bolted from inside, so he couldn't get in. Neither my family member nor I had requested maintenance, and he hadn't visited other rooms. Cameras on every floor should be installed and monitored so this doesn't happen again.
I haven't had a single issue here. The rooms are good, and housekeeping is consistently polite and does a solid job. Nicole is the reason this location stands out for me. She's friendly and always ready to help, which really matters when you're staying for a while. If you need a place for an extended stay, this is the InTown Suites I'd pick.
