Comfort Suites

What was meant to be a weekend for my toddler's birthday turned into more stress than it should have. We got there at 10 p.m., and the staff couldn't find us a clean room. Someone checked six rooms over about 20 minutes, then came back saying this was the cleanest one and only needed vacuuming, or so he thought. My toddler was exhausted and cranky, so I agreed and asked them to deal with it in the morning. We didn't actually get checked in until 11:30 p.m. Breakfast was awful, with the hot items not stocked. Before heading out for the day, I left a note asking for fresh sheets and vacuuming. When we got back, nobody had even acknowledged our room. The floor was still dirty, and the sheet still had the same stain it had at check-in. Honestly, I feel like it hadn't been changed since the last guest. Staff seemed more focused on their own problems than guest issues. I'll never stay here again. I wouldn't even give this place one star.

The bathroom was the low point. The bathtub was badly stained and felt generally unclean; the toilet was okay, though the toilet and shower seem due for an upgrade. Front desk service was hit or miss, and it seemed like a lot of complaints were being brought to the staff. There were plenty of upsides too. The complimentary breakfast had lots of options, with a great view from the dining room. Our room was large, the beds fairly comfortable, and I liked having a couch and table. Parking was pretty good, and the hotel is within walking distance of the levee, with plenty to explore nearby. It was a pleasant stay, but I can understand why a similarly priced hotel closer to the levee with higher ratings was sold out.

The reception staff were courteous, and the location is excellent for reaching the stadiums, aquarium, and riverfront. But renovations were underway, with half the hotel under construction. Our room looked like it was from the 90s, the ceiling over the shower had a square cutout, and the bathtub was cracked. Only one elevator was working, and there wasn't a real breakfast. If you decide to stay, see whether you can get one of the renovated rooms.

My room was nice, and the bathroom was too, though the air felt a bit stale, like it might have been a former smoking room. That smell faded almost right away. Front desk service was good. The location worked well, with plenty of parking and restaurants along the river nearby. There was no continental breakfast during my visit because the common area was being renovated, which I suppose is a plus.
