Newport Oceanfront Inn

This isn't the fanciest hotel, but it feels homey. We spent two nights and three days there at the start of February. It rained steadily for two days, then the third day had a little sun and was sunny for most of the day. The staff at the lobby counter were friendly and helpful when we needed extra towels or wanted to extend checkout. They served smoked salmon chowder at 5 pm every night and fresh oatmeal raisin cookies at 7 pm. The pool and jacuzzi were open. The pool bottom was stained, but the water was clean, and the jacuzzi was clean too. We'd come back for another trip to this oceanfront place.

I found my regular place in Newport. The ocean views open right off your bedroom patio, and there's even an outdoor sand pit area with fireplace features. The room was spotless, not a single hair or cleaning issue, and had a big TV, a Keurig, branded glasses, a fireplace, quartz counters and end tables, granite door thresholds, designer wallpaper, and a clean, modern bathroom. The attached parking garage is covered and has an upscale feel. The bed was comfy, the pillows as epic as IHG's, and the room felt like a Vegas suite. Clam chowder in the lobby at 5 pm was delicious. For what you get, the rates are peak bliss. This place is a steal, 10/10. I usually stay in IHG hotels for work perks. I tried the nearby IHG and didn't like it, so I gave this place a shot because the price was comparable. I was so surprised that I came to leave a review, which I don't think I've ever done for a hotel. Some old timers mentioned that the bed is high and they struggled to get in and out. I understand, but this is how high-end hotels all over the world set up their beds. People who struggle with it are a tiny minority and likely struggle with all basic life activities. Not to put anyone on blast, but that's just the facts. Enjoy!

We stayed for our 53rd anniversary. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the beds are cozy, but much too high for someone short like me. I had to ask for a step stool. The hot tub was the other downside. Once I got in, I wished I hadn't. It was dirty, with someone's hair floating around, and the water looked gray instead of clear.

We stayed over Thanksgiving and into the weekend, and the staff's service impressed us most. After we left, they called to let us know our 8-year-old had forgotten her new holiday shoes and stuffed rabbit. We were too far away to turn back, but they gladly shipped the things to us within a few days. We already planned to return, and their kindness made us even more certain. We also love the indoor pool, and the breakfast had something for all of us.
