Gardiner House

The evening turned into a memorable one, thanks to the relaxed atmosphere, the service, and how enjoyable everything felt. At the bar, Tyson was friendly and attentive, making sure my friend and I had what we needed without hovering. We felt well looked after all night. Stephan, the valet, welcomed us warmly and made the arrival easy. Gardiner House has a lovely balance of elegance and comfort. I’d recommend it for anyone looking for a special night out.

We spent two evenings at Studio Bar and really enjoyed the incredible food. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the Motouk towels were soft and fluffy. I’ve just finished a lovely two-night stay and highly recommend this inn.

The restaurant was a true five-star experience. The staff were outstanding, the food excellent, and I’d definitely go back to dine there. The valet team were also consistently friendly, professional, and accommodating. The room itself was comfortable and nice, with lovely furnishings, and the hotel is pretty. It’s also close to everything without being right on the busy street. The views weren’t anything special, and it looked like the ocean-facing side might be reserved for conference or wedding space. But for nearly $1,000 a night, we wouldn’t stay again. We were there for our anniversary in October, excited after seeing the property online and all the positive reviews. At check-in the concierge seemed uninterested, didn’t welcome us or explain the hotel, and offered no useful information. It felt like our presence was a bother. We’ve stayed at other hotels in this price range where the service is warm, attentive, and polished, so this was a real letdown. The valet was much more welcoming than the front desk. After a short walk around town, we came back and weren’t acknowledged at all. The concierge kept looking down at her phone. I’m fine with a low-key stay where nobody fusses over guests, but being ignored on a special anniversary trip at this price wasn’t what we expected. Even a simple hello would’ve helped. There aren’t many amenities, or nobody told us about them. Like many Newport hotels, valet parking was the only option and had a daily fee. At checkout, we noticed a charming bar and library space that we hadn’t known guests could use, since no one mentioned it at check-in. A beautiful hotel needs service to match if it’s going to feel like luxury. That part was missing for us. For the kind of experience anyone could offer, we could’ve gone somewhere else for much less. This review is about the hotel, not the restaurant, which I’d give five stars without hesitation.

The cocktails and crudo were great, and the view and atmosphere were perfect. Nathan was an excellent bartender. I’m looking forward to coming back, especially in summer when the outdoor bar is open.
