Moolack Shores Inn

The balcony’s magnificent ocean view was hard to beat, and the bed and pillows were so comfortable. We spent two nights in the cozy, clean “Camelot” room for our 18-year anniversary. The room was nicely decorated around its theme. The bathroom and shower stall are small, but adequate for a few nights. Service was excellent. Peggy, the manager, let us know as soon as the room was ready. Everyone was very friendly, and we look forward to coming back soon.

The room itself was clean and decently stocked, and the view and beach access were great. We might have made Moolack Shores one of our favorite places if we hadn’t had such a bad encounter with Peggy. I wouldn’t return or recommend it under the current management. My partner and I booked one night that same day through Booking.com because we were traveling with our dog and wanted a pet-friendly place. Moolack Shores came up at a reasonable price. During booking, there was no way to say whether we had a pet, how many, or what the policy was. It only said pets were welcome. We arrived after office hours, when the office was closed. My partner called the after-hours number on the door to ask how to get the key for the room we’d paid for. The woman who answered, Peggy, said she hadn’t heard about a booking and asked which room we’d reserved. When he told her, she said the key was hanging on the door. That seemed like a safety concern, since anyone could have entered before we got there. After we checked the room and brought in our things, Peggy texted me the confirmation along with a photo of the pet policy and fees. We hadn’t known about the fees when we booked, and the office was closed, so I planned to pay when I returned the key at checkout. My partner left for work early the next morning. I packed up for the 10 a.m. checkout, then took our dog around the property to use the designated potty area and down to the beach. As soon as I opened the room door, carrying my things with my dog on her leash, Peggy and her unleashed dog came charging over. Her dog rushed toward mine. Peggy repeatedly demanded payment for my dog in a very rude manner. My dog doesn’t like other dogs charging at her, and my hands were full, so I first made sure my dog wasn’t frightened. Then I told Peggy I hadn’t yet gone to the office to check out or return the key. I was trying to keep her dog from hovering over mine while Peggy just stood watching without saying anything to it. She demanded the fee again. I said I’d pay after putting my things and my dog in the car. At the office, I explained that Booking.com gives no option to declare a pet or number of pets and doesn’t show the pet fee or policy during booking, only that pets are welcome. Peggy rudely replied, “well you’re the first to say that”. I paid the fee, handed over the key, and left. Peggy accused us of “sneaking in our dog,” even though we’d been upfront from the start, accepted the policy and fee she texted the night before, and had walked the property and beach below with her. She was very rude and unprofessional. Be aware, and read the reviews and her responses. She comes across as aggressive and tries to manipulate situations. She doesn’t take responsibility for recurring issues and concerns, and doesn’t set an example with her own pet policies.

PEGGY IS AWESOME, WE LOVE THIS PLACE! Peggy’s texts kept us up to date with everything we needed to know and then some. She also had recommendations for places to eat, drink, and explore, and made sure we were comfortable during our stay. She went above and beyond. This time we had the spotless, tidy Nostalgia Room, Room #2. We’ve stayed here several times, and each visit makes us more excited to try another themed room on our next trip to LC. Peggy really is awesome. We’ll be back!

The location is lovely, but I didn’t feel welcome or accommodated as a guest with a service animal. I stayed at Moolack Shores in Newport with my trained service dog, and check-in was very difficult. I’d told the property in advance about my dog, yet the front desk staff had a loose, non-service dog roaming around the office and later left unattended in the parking lot. When I asked that the dogs be kept apart, I was told to put my service dog in my car. Staff also said I should expect other businesses in town to ask for “papers” or an ID card for my service dog, which isn’t accurate under the ADA. After I raised concerns, they brought up pet policies and vaccination requirements that hadn’t been shared before I arrived. Nobody tried to secure the staff member’s dog or resolve the situation.
