Motel 6 Newport, TN

The staff were great and very nice when I showed up without a reservation, and the hotel itself seemed decent. The rooms, though, were a mess. In the first one, all the mattresses were standing on end, so I asked to move. The second room was 50 degrees inside with the heat off. I set it to 70 and ran it all night, but the temperature only reached 65. It didn’t seem properly serviced: the bed looked okay, but the towels didn’t, the fridge and microwave weren’t plugged in, and the toilet paper holder was missing its tube. Somebody really dropped the ball, even though the staff were great.

The young woman at the desk was pleasant and as helpful as she could be, but she seemed to have her hands tied. The owner should be ashamed, because the location is great and could be busy if they took pride in the place. As it is, this is a filthy roach motel. Roaches came out of the refrigerator and microwave, and the whole property needs deep cleaning, repairs or updates, fresh linens, and serious pest control. The walls, floor, shower, and vents were all filthy. The door had no working deadbolt, and its loose latch was weak. Don’t stay here if you care about your health and safety.

My fiancé is a truck driver, and he could park his truck and trailer here for his 10-hour break. We got a restful stay with no real problems, and we appreciated that the staff were friendly and housekeeping did their best. The common areas smelled great, and the linens and shower were clean. It’s not a fancy hotel, and the room walls could use paint or a deep clean; the shower could use resurfacing too. I didn’t see any roaches, or we would’ve checked out sooner. There was no coffee, so that would’ve been nice, and bring a wall charger because there are no USB outlets. Thanks for a good experience.

The pool was a highlight, and there’s a Burger King nearby, along with Walmart, Cracker Barrel, and a gas station right next door. It’s a good deal, but ask for an upstairs room. I was traveling from Ohio and stayed on and off for two weeks. It was the best motel in the area, though the elevator smelled so strongly of smoke I could barely breathe. The tenants downstairs reeked of alcohol and drugs and were always arguing with the front desk. On my first night, we heard fighting, screaming, and doors slamming. Those people were moved out the next day.
