Super 8 Newton

Somebody paid for my room in an emergency, so this is only my opinion and says nothing about the person who paid. I don’t think they knew what it was like here. If I’d chosen the hotel myself, I wouldn’t have picked this one, and I can’t recommend it. The room was okay, and breakfast was typical but adequate. The heating unit wouldn’t turn off even when I used the controls, so I had to unplug it because the room felt like a sauna. I checked in at 8 pm, exhausted, and asked for a late checkout. They said it would cost $20. I’m a senior over sixty, on foot with three heavy bags after a bad car accident. More than a year ago, when I first stayed here, the place was run by very nice people. The last time I tried to stay, they demanded a huge deposit I couldn’t pay, then wouldn’t refund me or let me stay. It was summer, and I got so stressed I had to call emergency services. I’ve found them cruel and greedy, charging extra for everything. When I had trouble with them several months ago, I avoided all Wyndhams 💯. I later learned none of this is Wyndham’s policy, it’s just the people here. If you need something or have a problem, they’re unkind and will charge extra. I really hope they didn’t stick it to the pastor who helped me. None of this is about race or national origin, or even Wyndham.

The room was overpriced and freezing. It took hours to warm up. Seeing garbage scattered around the parking lot and only one other vehicle there should have tipped me off.

For a budget motel, this is a nice space, and the location is handy, with plenty of fast food and gas nearby and quick access to I-80. Parking was okay with only about a dozen cars, though the lot might be tight for a big UHaul. There’s no elevator, just stairs. The only working ice machine is on the first floor, where there’s also a coin-operated washer and dryer. Our room was as expected, clean, and had plenty of outlets, nightstands on both sides of the king bed, and four small pillows. The bathroom was small but clean, with no signs of bed bugs or other concerns. Climate controls worked well. Shower pressure was low and the curtain rod felt unstable, so the curtain sagged and water splashed onto the floor. The front desk staff were kind and helpful at check-in and check-out, though their strong Indian accents made them hard for us to understand. There were some check-in questions we couldn’t make out even after asking several times. Free breakfast runs 6a-9a downstairs behind the lobby. There was a waffle maker, sausage gravy and biscuits, white bread for toast, oatmeal, yogurt, bananas, apples, Frosted Flaked and Raisin Bran. The juice machine was broken, but the small fridge by the yogurt had pitchers of milk and orange juice. Coffee, creamer, and sugar were available too. For the low price and room quality, I’d stay again.

The room was dirty and disgusting, and it smelled. We found dirty towels, and the sink wouldn’t drain. Breakfast was mostly out of service, with only toast, biscuits, and gravy available. The gravy wasn’t in a commercial slow cooker, which I’m sure is a health code violation. I clicked one star just to post this, but I’d give the hotel zero.
