Whispering Creek Lodging & RV Resort

The experience was okay, and the young woman who cleaned the bathhouse and some rooms during my week there was polite and kept busy. A tall gentleman seemed to work as a grounds or maintenance man, from sunrise until dark each day. I didn’t know the young Hispanic boy’s job title, but from what I saw, he didn’t seem to do much and looked like he couldn’t wait to leave. He seemed to hate working there. The office woman was rarely in the office during the week I stayed. She smoked outside all day, and whenever I went by, the office door was locked. She often seemed to leave or clean elsewhere, and she would blow cigarette smoke right in my face. That didn’t feel respectful or businesslike.

I can’t recommend this place. The cabin looked dated at first, but on closer inspection it was dirty and poorly maintained. One of the two beds had spiders all over it. We first thought they were bed bugs, but they were spiders. The rest of the place was pretty dirty and run down too, as the pictures show. The woman at the counter was nice, though not very fluent in English. She didn’t give us the Wi-Fi code, since the Wi-Fi was apparently really bad out there “because of the weather.” The booking also said breakfast was included, but when we went to the office on Sunday morning, a sign said it wouldn’t open until 2 p.m. due to worshipping. We booked a “deluxe cabin,” but I really don’t understand the good reviews.

I paid for my room on Hotels.com, but the owner said they hadn’t received payment and insisted I pay her too. I did, then saw my card had still been charged. When I told her, she didn’t even offer to refund me, so I ate the cost. This time I had a dog and paid the pet deposit. The dog got sick and threw up, and we cleaned it up right away. She then said she’d charge another $100 for something the pet deposit already covered. All I see is greed and an effort to take whatever they can, whether they’re entitled to it or not. I’d go to Jasper or Deritter, or wherever else I had to, to avoid this place. And please keep cigarette smoke away from people who don’t smoke. This is no way to run a business.

After 30 days here, I think this place could be a booming business with proper management. The front desk woman had me remodel and repair water damage worth over $3,000, but never paid me. She said the RV I stayed in for those 30 days had taken all that money. She also went through my RV when I was away. She found cigarette ashes on the floor, though I don’t smoke. The maintenance guy had a family member pass away, and I offered to cover his job while he was gone. But every lawnmower, weed eater, tractor, and the rest of the equipment wasn’t working, even though he was only away an hour or so a week. I trimmed hedges, weed-eated the whole property, and fixed the gate and benches by the pool, but never got paid. After 30 days, when I asked about payment, I was told I had three days to leave before the owner showed up. Poor, poor management.
