After an overnight bus ride, I reached Niagara Falls early in the morning and walked to Kalika Hotel Niagara Falls with my luggage. I expected to leave my backpack at reception until check-in, but was told they don’t store bags. In more than 15 years of international travel, I haven’t run into another hotel that couldn’t offer a basic place to leave luggage before a room was ready. I explained politely that this policy hadn’t been mentioned when I booked, and that I would have picked somewhere else if I’d known. The only option they gave me was early check-in for an extra $70 and a $100 security deposit, just to avoid carrying my bag around all day. Staff didn’t offer another solution or respond to my concern that the policy hadn’t been made clear. I ended up spending the day hauling my luggage around Niagara Falls after travelling overnight. Now I feel stuck continuing with the booking or losing the money I’ve already paid. It’s a disappointing way to start a stay, and the lack of flexibility made it worse. If you’ll arrive before check-in, contact the property first to ask about luggage storage. I assumed it would be available, and it wasn’t.

The rooms and housekeeping are great, and the people here actually care. There’s a real mix of class and humility throughout the place, which you don’t come across often. It’s in one of the liveliest parts of Niagara Falls for tourism, and I’d put this among the best motels to stay at. I’ve seen the comments about a rough past, but they’ve really stepped it up. Kalika gets 4.5 stars from me, though Google only allowed me to choose 4.

The staff have been so kind every time my family and I have stayed here. We’ve come back many times, and I’d happily recommend it. The rooms are clean, and they’ll bring fresh towels and blankets when you need them. When I asked at the front desk for a bed change, housekeeping was already at my third-floor room with clean sheets, blankets, and pillowcases by the time I got there. They even thanked us for keeping the room tidy. If you need somewhere while visiting the Falls, give this place a look instead of the bigger hotel names. La Cucina Di Mamma is right out front, too.

The rooms are good, and the place is clean and well kept. The main downside is the lack of an elevator, so we had to haul our luggage up to the third floor. The reception could do a better job as well. I’d give it 3 1/2 stars.

The front desk service was the worst part for me. The female receptionist of Indian background was hostile, unfriendly, and very unprofessional from the moment I arrived, for no clear reason. The property also smelled unpleasant, wasn’t clean, and seemed poorly maintained. There’s no elevator, it’s quite far from Niagara Falls, and parking is so limited that guests may have to look elsewhere. I wouldn’t recommend staying here under any circumstances, even if that meant staying outside the area. I won’t be coming back.
