Wingate By Wyndham Niagara Falls

The room was next door to a TV blaring at 1am, so I got to know reception while reporting the noise. The walls seem to let sound straight through. Earlier, around 11pm, the fire alarm went off with no fire, just its own little performance. And late-night guests made plenty of noise, as if quiet hours were for a drum circle. We paid extra for parking, but couldn’t use the EV chargers because guests with ICE cars had blocked them. A fully electric vacation with bonus range anxiety. We had a five-star time at the Wingate Niagara, obviously. Thanks for the memories! 🪩

The location was the best part for our family trip. With my three teen and pre-teen boys, we could easily walk along the river and reach the Falls sights. Our suite was very spacious, with a king bedroom, two queens in the main room, and another area and bathroom between them. Check-in was smooth, and the $11 per night parking fee was known to us beforehand. The service at check-in felt focused on speed. I had to ask where our room was and how to get in, and nobody mentioned breakfast hours, so I called the desk later. There wasn’t anyone behind me, and a more welcoming greeting would have been nice. The lobby was the only place that felt clean. The hallways and stairs were dingy, with piles of swept-up debris left sitting around. I saw one pile of hair and trash stay in the hall for 24 hours. At first our room looked okay, but when I checked under a bed for something one of the boys might have dropped, I found trash from previous guests. It looked like the area hadn’t been cleaned in months. I’m not overly picky, but parts of the room and bathroom looked dirty and overlooked. Breakfast was adequate, with a few hot choices, a couple of cereals, and bread for toasting. The juice machine didn’t have real orange juice, and apples were the only fresh fruit. It was the same each of the three days. The stay was fine, but I wouldn’t book here again.

The heater worked and the beds were comfortable, and we were only about three minutes from goat Island, which was convenient. Breakfast was great, with lots of vegetarian options. The pancakes, eggs, and fruit were delicious, 5/5 for breakfast. The tub wouldn’t drain because there was so much hair in the drain. My partner pulled it out so we could shower without dirty water rising to our ankles. There was dusty trash under the sink too, and I don’t know how long it had been there. The closet door wouldn’t stay shut and got in the way of opening and closing the front door.

I took pictures of the breakfast: just white bread, eggs that looked old, and cold coffee. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, and I’d be embarrassed to. Even zero stars feels too generous. The first floor smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, and the back entrance was unlocked so anyone could come in. They’d said it would be fixed a week ago. It didn’t feel like a family hotel. I chose badly because of New Year’s, but I definitely won’t return. I’ll upload the pictures to Google right away.
