Delta Hotels by Marriott Norfolk Airport

I’m here for work regularly and last stayed a year ago. Since then, the Marriott standard at this hotel has declined a lot. Service was great, but the accommodations weren’t what I expect from Marriott. The room was in bad shape, with patched ceilings that looked like water damage from above, lifted and peeling laminate flooring, and a chipped, peeling bathtub. The hallways smelled like weed all day, every day. The gym was missing most parts for the cable machine, and all the treadmills were out of service.

The pantry was a really nice extra, and the rooms were roomy, clean, and well equipped. The pool was among the cleanest hotel pools I’ve been in, too. Our conditioner dispenser was empty, but they sent a refill right away. Cleveland was testing the pool chemicals when we met him, and he was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Sorry again about having to switch our glasses for paper cups! Everything about the stay was great, and the place smelled fresh. Thanks, Delta. A colleague stayed at the Delta at the Waterfront and had a similar experience.

The staff were helpful, professional, and very nice. The building itself was a different story: the hallways had a foul smell, the elevators smelled like marijuana, and I found roaches in my room. The food is also very expensive.

The staff have been understanding and accommodating, and the location is convenient. But I’m here for 15 days, and the noise has been a problem. I’ve had to call the staff several times, which isn’t something I usually do. On most nights the fifth floor reeks of marijuana, and the smell comes through the bathroom vents. I couldn’t get fresh air into my room, and I’m tired of smelling weed before bed. They should enforce strong consequences for smoking weed in rooms.
