Hampton Inn Norfolk-Naval Base

Breakfast was a real meal, not the prepackaged grab-and-go food you get at many places. Each morning there were small cheese omelets, potatoes, and bacon or similar breakfast meat, along with waffles, fruit, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, and bread. The staff I met were very polite. The hotel is close to the base, probably under a five-minute drive and about a 15-minute walk, or longer depending on when you walk. There’s a shopping plaza just south of it, with a grocery store, restaurants, and other businesses nearby. The pool was being renovated during my stay. The gym is open from 6am to midnight and is decent for its size, with a treadmill, elliptical, bike, bench, and several dumbbells.

Our power had been out for a long time, so we needed a last-minute place to stay. The hotel was super accommodating, less than ten minutes from home, and in a familiar area. We chose it because it was one of the few nearby pet-friendly options. I think the charge was $75 per pet. Our dogs surprisingly liked the elevator, and there were plenty of outdoor spots for them to do their business. The rooms were very clean and the front desk was welcoming. Breakfast had lots of choices the next morning. The dining area was crowded, so we filled our plates and ate in our room.

We checked out at 6:00 AM on Sunday, and breakfast was already available. I can't remember the last time we left a hotel that early and found breakfast ready, so extra credit to the staff for that. They were terrific from the start, greeting us and pointing out the elevators, gym, and laundry, as well as explaining the included breakfast. We'll definitely stay again. The room was clean, and housekeeping brought me extra towels with a smile. One small tip: bring your own pillows, because the ones in the room are more like throw pillows. I've stayed at many high-end hotels and haven't received service this good.

The room was clean, breakfast was free, and the staff made the stay easy and pleasant. The front desk team seemed happy and treated us with kindness and professionalism. I didn't catch the name of the man who checked me in, but he was especially friendly and efficient, and quickly explained the renovation and apologized for any inconvenience. The property is a little old and needs repairs, which is why it's being renovated. There were many guests that weekend, but the hotel still seemed well-run. I have no complaints about how the work was handled and would happily stay here again when I'm in Norfolk.
