Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott North Bergen

We stayed December 26-28, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Eli at the front desk was especially courteous and patient on December 26, even with two different groups of guests who seemed cranky and demanding to me. He went out of his way to offer me a brush to clear snow off our car, and turned on the dining room lights so we could eat take-out well after the room's usual hours, since it only opens for breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was generous and varied, as we've found at other Fairfield locations. There's a bus stop nearby for the 40-minute ride to Port Authority station.

I expected better from a Marriott-branded property. I contacted the hotel three times to speak with a manager, and each time was told the manager was in a meeting. I requested callbacks, but nobody ever got back to me. I also spoke with multiple Expedia representatives. One agent secured a refund for one night only. I clearly said I'd be willing to rebook for a future date or take a credit, but was told neither was an option. That surprised me, since I'd never had trouble rebooking a hotel stay before. What's made this even more frustrating is that I'm still receiving requests to review my stay, even though my concerns weren't addressed and management never contacted me. It feels dismissive and insulting. Whatever the booking policies, basic customer service means returning calls and engaging with guests. That didn't happen here.

The breakfast had a satisfying variety for the price, and the linens, towels, and rooms were clean overall. The location was convenient to get to, while still away from New York City's hustle and bustle. One thing we found unusual was that rooms weren't cleaned daily unless we asked. Ideally, housekeeping would come every day without us needing to request it.

Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites North Bergen was a fantastic choice for our several-night stay. It's a great base for exploring NYC without Manhattan prices, or for having a quieter spot to return to after city days. The area has some good local eats and feels safe. From 1707 69th St in North Bergen, NJ, you're close to the Lincoln Tunnel and Port Authority, with quick drives or buses into Manhattan, about 15-20 min to Midtown on a good day. Nearby public transit makes Times Square, Central Park, and downtown straightforward to reach. The Meadowlands, including MetLife Stadium and American Dream mall, are easy to get to, and Newark Airport is convenient too. Five stars for the location.
