Holiday Inn Express North Bergen Lincoln Tunnel

We didn’t use the pool since we were there for New Year’s, but the hotel does offer a shuttle to and from NYC for about $8 extra if you don’t want to drive. It’s also near the original Carlo bakery from Cake Boss. I’d order online for pickup. My husband is in the military and planned our family trip to NYC. He’d read reviews describing rude staff and other problems, but our experience was nothing like that. The hotel and room were clean, there was no bad smell, and the staff were nice, including the woman manager whose name I can’t remember. Our three-year-old enjoyed the stay too. I’d recommend this place.

The room smelled like urine, the old carpet was stained, and a sharp piece of metal was sticking out at the end of the bed. My husband hit it, but luckily it didn’t cut his foot. We told the front desk as soon as we noticed, and they did nothing. We had to spend two days there. It feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen, and the place is dumpy overall. At least the breakfast was good and the staff were nice. I’d strongly suggest staying somewhere else.

I’ve stayed at several Holiday Inn Express properties in Europe and the US, and they ranged from good to great. This one was by far the worst, and I’d avoid it. There were several things in the room or bathroom that didn’t work, which points to poor maintenance. Breakfast was sparse and repetitive. The reception was especially bad, with staff who were discourteous and nearly rude. We encountered two senior staff members there who behaved badly, while the junior staff were quite nice.

The hotel is about as close to New York City as you can get, and compared with other nearby hotels, it’s a good choice. The rooms were fairly clean, and both the beds and bathroom were nice. The plastic cover on the AC wouldn’t stay on. Breakfast was okay, and the coffee was amazing.
