Courtyard by Marriott Charleston-North Charleston

The room itself was comfortable, and the morning front desk man made sure I got towels. But there were none in the room when I arrived, and there was no shampoo, conditioner, or soap. The shower and toilet area also had dirt and red mold around the floorboards. I couldn't enjoy my work stay because of the way Lanette, the night manager, treated me. She looked up my old address and said I was local, so I'd have to pay an extra $300. I was traveling for work, live an hour away, and had just taken a long flight. I'd already paid for the room. When I asked why, she repeated that locals had to pay extra, then said I'd have to pay $100 more, a charge I couldn't find in the fine print on Marriott Bonvey's site. She also told me I wouldn't get free breakfast and wasn't allowed outside for entertainment. I'd never had a breakfast issue before, and she said it with an attitude. Being told I couldn't have breakfast or sit outside on the patio in the evening after paying to stay here was too much. I won't bring my business back.

The room was comfortable and the location was convenient, but it wasn't cleaned during my three-night stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Charleston North Charleston, even though I requested service from both housekeeping and the front desk. I raised it on the last night with Aniya, who was polite, professional, and helpful. She acknowledged the trouble and offered a 50% discount for one night, which I appreciated. The issue could have been avoided if the staff had followed through earlier. I hope the hotel improves how it handles communication and housekeeping. Aniya did a great job, but service consistency needs work.

I checked in on November 26 to visit my son, who is based there, and was supposed to leave December 1. A family emergency back home meant I had to check out two days early. They charged me $250 plus another $19, and now they won't answer when I call to ask what the charges were for. The AC in my room didn't work, housekeeping hadn't done the job properly, and they put me in a room I hadn't reserved. Something felt off throughout the stay. I'll never stay there again. If I could give zero stars, I would.

The front desk staff were polite and professional, but the room looked picked up rather than cleaned. I wondered whether the towels had been used before, and hoped the mold around the tub was just a stain. The lobby was dark and uninviting. I couldn't tell if the hotel bar was closed or just had an ominous feel to it.
