Border House at Crystal Bay Casino

The owner made us feel at home, and Jack was the best waiter. Great food and excellent staff.

The beds were clean and reasonably comfortable, and I was glad the place was smoke-free and pet-free. It’s close to Kings Beach and right across from the free shuttle. All in all, it wasn’t a bad stay. A couple of things felt odd. The second-floor entrance has a large, unmarked step that’s easy to trip over. The bathroom has a big jacuzzi tub and beautiful views, but only a curtain separates it from the room. The toilet has no separate privacy either, so you have to rely on the curtain at the main bathroom entrance and hope nobody walks in. A simple curtain or sliding door for the toilet would help.

I had a great experience overall, with friendly staff, comfy beds, and nice robes and towels. The food was amazing, though expensive. As a fellow business owner, I’d suggest replacing the bedroom-to-bathroom curtain with sliding barn doors, labeling the light switches, and changing the high-end steakhouse to bar food and breakfast to suit the casino and music venue.

Room #6 was very spacious, including the restroom, but it was too dark and didn’t get much light. The hotel itself is just a building with rooms, with no bar, restaurant, or lounge. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, but you have to drive since there are almost no options within walking distance. It’s a nice hotel right on the state border. To check in, you go into the casino, where they give you keys to the Border House and your room. Kids aren’t welcome in casinos, and when checking in with a child, we noticed some security staff watching us in a not-very-friendly way.
