Hilltop Inn and Suites, near Foxwoods Casino

I stayed over Memorial Day weekend. Check-in and checkout were easy, and the staff were polite. The room was average, with comfortable beds and a good TV with lots of channels. The shower had great water pressure, which I actually miss, and the place was fairly quiet aside from a few passing sirens. Breakfast had assorted breads, yogurt, a few cereals and two very popular Belgian waffle makers. The waffles were really good, and I'd recommend them.

It was reasonably priced compared with staying at the casino, and suited what I needed. I came to meet friends near Foxwoods since I didn't have any comps. Check-in was quick and the casino was close by. They offer a shuttle, but I drove myself. I made a waffle in the morning and had black coffee the next day. The room was adequate, with a fridge and TV. The eating areas and surrounding grounds were kept clean, and signs ask smokers to go well away from the building. I'd book again if I needed to.

We stayed one night in room 139, checked out, then came back for a suite with a Jacuzzi, room 165. The extra money was worth it. Randy at the desk was polite and professional. We were very happy with our stay and would recommend it.

The facility was nice, quiet and private, and the rooms were very clean. Housekeeping was great and breakfast was good. But the woman at the front desk on Friday, roughly 3:15 p.m. to 11 p.m., turned what would have been a 7 or 8 into a 2. I don't know her name. I booked on Expedia with “pay at hotel,” but on the way there I got a bank notice that the money had been taken. I called to ask why and whether the room was still booked, and the receptionist was extremely rude. She said check-in was at 3:00, not 4:00 as Expedia showed, and told me to hurry because rooms were filling and she wouldn't hold mine. The hour-long drive was stressful because I didn't know if the booking still existed or if my money was wasted. It was our anniversary on the 13th and Valentine's Day was the 14th, and we were hoping for a nice stay. When my wife asked about Wi-Fi problems in the lobby, the woman snapped loudly that she was having connection problems too and didn't know what my wife wanted her to do. Other issues came up during the trip, and getting help felt stressful and difficult because we expected more attitude and to be looked down on. She ruined the weekend for us. The place is nice, but the staffing needs to be much better. Sadly, I won't return.
