DoubleTree by Hilton Detroit Novi

My wife, daughter, and granddaughter stayed at the Double Tree by Hilton in Novi, MI, and the suite was unbearably hot. The thermostat showed 82 degrees. They set it to 67, but the heater kept running because the thermostat was broken. My wife called the front desk and was told staff couldn’t do anything. They also refused to move my family, so they spent the night in sauna-like heat and barely slept. The next morning, 1/25/2026, my wife raised the issue and was told the suite had been marked not to be rented because of the heating problem. Nobody had told her that. Staff said the GM would call me Monday about compensation. On Monday morning, 1/26/2026, Andrew Sandiha, the GM for Double Tree by Hilton Novi, called. He apologized and agreed my family should not have been given that room. We discussed what happened, but I haven’t heard from Andrew or anyone at Double Tree by Hilton Novi since. I feel offended and disrespected by Andrew. As a Hilton Honors member, I believe some compensation is due for the uninhabitable suite and for being ghosted by a General Manager. I have a photo of the thermostat, which was also sent to Andrew Sandiha on 1/26/2026. The stay was at the Double Tree by Hilton in Novi, MI.

During two months of monthly travel over the past two years, I’ve never had to pay for continental breakfast. I was surprised to be charged $20 here. A sign letting guests know about the charge would have been helpful.

The location is great, but this hotel falls short of basic standards. Stains were all over the hallways and room, and the place looks like it needs a remodel. There were few usable outlets and none of the perks I usually expect from a Hilton brand. The two ice machines were both broken. Staff said they’d been a problem for some time and offered neither ice nor another option. There were no cookies on arrival, despite the promise, and continental breakfast cost $18.95 per person. After four disappointing stays at Hilton brand hotels, a chain I used to trust, my family and I can no longer rely on Hilton for our trips. My son even said, “ok, dad is not allowed to pick the hotels anymore, he used to pick the best hotels but the last few have been awful”. It’s frustrating to spend money taking the family away only to have everyone disgusted and disappointed by the hotel.

We stayed here September 26-28, 2025, my son and I. The city had a water main break Thursday morning, 9/25/25, and local restaurants were boiling potable water. The health department notice said water had to be boiled for consumption for 15 days. At Friday evening check-in, we were not told about the contamination. We drank coffee made with that water, showered, and brushed our teeth. We found out Saturday and raised it that night with Keysha. There still wasn’t a notice at the front desk. She told us to speak with manager Andrew on Monday. I emailed him on 9/29/25. He said signs had been up the whole time and guests were informed at check-in, but that wasn’t our experience. Doubletree is usually one of the better Hilton brands. This hotel is worse than Hilton’s lowest, and the 3.9 average review makes sense. Definitely subpar.
