I came hoping for some peace, but I got no rest and left at 5:30 in the morning. The second room, on the third floor, was a little nicer than the one on the second, and the noise wasn’t quite as bad, but there was still no quiet. I could tell people lived there, and it was noisy at times. The first floor had stuff everywhere, and the elevator was old. At first I thought I’d booked the Sonesta hotel, but it turned out to be the suite. The place looked outdated and odd. The stairway smelled like weed, the couch didn’t look great, and there were marks on the bathroom floor. I sprayed it down and tried to settle in, but all I heard was banging and kids. It got louder as the evening went on, even though it was Tuesday. The room phone didn’t work, so I had to call the front desk on my cellphone. After I complained, they moved me. I’ll never come back. Don’t book here if you expect a quiet stay.

We’ve been here a month and intend to stay longer. They’re remodeling during the day, so the hallways can be a little dirty, but they clean them daily. Our own place is a one-bedroom or two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, and we don’t live in the hallways.

I was in the room for maybe 5-10 minutes before deciding I couldn’t stay. The couch was worn down and stained, there was an odd smell, and the paper towel had a strange mark that I couldn’t identify. I noticed what looked like a small patch of black mold on the caulk around the tub. The room did have a kitchenette. Maybe they allow long-term stays, but I wouldn’t choose this place again. The price was below average for the area, which I should have paid more attention to. The entrance had a big steel box sign by the front desk, and the check-in area had beat-up carpet and wasn’t especially tidy. I didn’t ask for a refund, though maybe one should have been offered. I booked at a much nicer hotel up the road. My standards for hotels are high, so someone else might find this acceptable. I wish I’d taken photos, but I was focused on finding somewhere else to sleep.

The bathroom sink backed up, and it was missing its stopper. There was visible mold in the tub, the smoke detector had been pulled from the ceiling, and the carpet was dirty and wet. I think the AC may have been leaking because the carpet stayed damp. The room smelled strongly of curry, though I couldn’t tell if someone had cooked in our room or down the hall. The dishwasher also failed to clean the dishes, leaving stains baked on. There was even a creepy inflatable displayed in a room on the third floor. This was my second stay at this Sonesta Suites, and my last. We first stayed at the Troy location and had a great experience, so we tried Novi in January 2025 and found it satisfactory. It’s an older property, but it was clean then. This time, October 4-6, in room 109, I was disgusted. I won’t recommend this place to anyone.

The room felt like a home away from home, with a full kitchen, a nice bed, and a couch. I slept really well, and service to my room was very quick. The desk clerk was nice too. There’s no breakfast, but stores are close and that works for me. After reading earlier reviews, I can’t imagine what the rooms were like before, but my stay was spectacular.
