Red Roof Inn Milwaukee – Airport/Oak Creek

During a stressful move, this stay added frustration instead of giving me a break. There were visible stains on the bedding and near the bathroom, and an unpleasant smell from the HVAC made it hard to use. The front desk offered to switch rooms, but I couldn’t move because of time constraints, and they didn’t offer any other adjustment or accommodation. After checking out, we realized we’d left a house plant behind. I called the next day and was told anything left behind gets automatically thrown away. It was a living plant we’d cared for and grown over time, not some random bit of trash. I asked if they could check with the cleaning staff, but was told nothing could be done. I understand having policies, but there should be reasonable discretion for personal belongings that clearly aren’t trash. Cleanliness, care, and customer service all left a lot to be desired.

The room had a strong cigarette smell, and so did the sheets, pillows, and reception area. That’s the main reason I don’t plan to return to this hotel. When I checked in last night, the man at the desk was also unfriendly and discourteous in his tone, how he spoke, and the way he communicated information.

After close to 18 hours on the road, I ended up sleeping in my car in minus 15 degree weather. I’d paid Priceline $62 for the room, then the hotel demanded another $50 deposit that hadn’t been disclosed when I booked. The desk clerk was rude and left me waiting for 20 minutes before saying she couldn’t refund it and that Priceline would have to. I was charged $62 for a room I never used, after spending my last money on it. What a rip-off. Avoid this place. The service was horrible, the staff rude, and there were roaches in the lobby.

The first room had no working Wi-Fi at all, and they just left it that way. We switched rooms and got a connection, but that one had a hole in the wall and a heater falling off it, very obviously held on with zip ties. The bedding looked dirty, like it hadn’t been washed. People were yelling outside and slamming stuff day and night, which was ridiculous. This place is horrible.
